We had the good fortune of connecting with Njedeh Anthony and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Njedeh, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I believe it all comes down to passion. When you’re building your own business or project, the traditional 9-to-5 mindset doesn’t apply. As long as it’s yours, you’re working around the clock—because everything depends on your dedication. There’s no room to call in sick or step away when things get tough. That’s where true passion makes all the difference. If you genuinely love what you do, you won’t even notice the 18-hour days. You’ll keep going—not out of obligation, but because you’re fueled by purpose. Now if there is no love for what you do, then you might need to reassess the reasons for doing whatever you are doing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a writer, director, and producer. My creative journey began with writing books—I was drawn to the independence it offered: building worlds, crafting original stories, and sharing something entirely my own. Eventually, I transitioned into independent filmmaking for two main reasons. First, my kids—I wanted them to see that with focus and determination, anything is possible. Second, I realized that film, as an audio-visual medium, offers a more immediate way to connect with a broader audience than books often can.

Originality has always been my north star. If I don’t have something new to say or show, then what’s the point? I’m not a fan of recycled art. That mindset shaped our first film, Creatures of Necessity. I had the story and the dialogue, and I let everything else fall into place. It worked for that project, but I knew that approach wouldn’t hold up as we scaled.

With Exceptional Beings, we had a larger team, a stronger budget, and—like every production—plenty of obstacles. But filmmaking is about problem-solving. You stay agile and find solutions.

Now, our latest film, Yellow Broken Road, is in the final stretch of post-production—and I can’t wait to share it with the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I always take anyone who visits me to Veronica’s Kitchen. It’s such a joy watching them experience Nigerian food for the first time—their hands messy and unsure as they dip fufu into the soup. I love every moment of it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my dad, I learnt a lot from him, about how to communicate with people to get to a shared goal.
