We had the good fortune of connecting with Octavio Molina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Octavio, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Consistency and determination. Work hard.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Los Angeles-based art director, trained in abstract art at Central Saint Martins in London, hairdressing and design at the tony&guy Academy in NYC.
My multidisciplinary artistic abilities have allowed me to collaborate with brands such as L’oreal Rag&Bone, and Iris Van Herpen as well as earning a feature in FORBES and a spotlight in People en Español “The most influential Latinos in the us” in the beauty category spearheaded by Jennifer Lopez.
In 2018 | created and founded tavi beauty, in Los angeles, California with a minimalist approach inspired by the art of hair and nature. The hair care brand won multiple awards including “Best of Beauty 2019 in the hair category by
“hola! magazine” My work has also been featured across multiple media platforms, including
CBS, ABC, Vogue, New York magazine, and BYRDIE.COM.
My mixed media photography project LIGHT | DARKNESS was recently nominated by GRAMMY WINNER SEAL to receive THE LEICA OSKAR BARNACK AWARD.
In the summer of 2021, I collaborated with Grammy winner BECKY G in creating a mural inspired by the Latinx culture of Los Angeles to be exhibited at the launch event of Becky’s makeup brand TRESLUCE. My artwork has been shown during Frieze Week in Los Angeles and New York City.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lacma and the surrounding grounds including the la Brea tart pits. For food and drinks, Gjusta, Gjelina, and white shark in Venice. Verve coffee in Manhattan Beach, The Dorothy Chandler Pavillion, and the Union Station building in DTLA. I love antique shopping so any kind of second-hand store will get my attention. El Porto beach for a nice sunset walk. And a drive up and down the coast.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family, especially my mom, and dad, both work hard to provide us with opportunities, And my friends have been there to support my creative ideas.
