We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Kierdal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“If you know how to count, count on yourself”, a quote my Mum used to always say. It taught me that as soon as you gradually gain independence, you should take as much responsibility for yourself as possible. Learn as many skills as you can (especially in your field of work) so you can do more, be more, and help others along the way. Being able to really embrace that will make you unstoppable.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m primarily a songwriter, but I began my work in music as a singer and pianist. I learned classical piano from the age of 4 which is mostly very melodic and emotional, so in all my topline writing, I focus on melody, rhythm and emotion, making sure the listener feels something and can connect to it. If the lyrics, too, convey a deeper message, it’s a bonus. But to me, the music is everything. It took years of piano lessons (I owe a lot to my incredible piano teacher Andrea Closier for bringing so much light into my life through her teaching), hundreds of performances, and many setbacks. But it’s an amazing process and I love doing what I’m doing. I had a very successful  2021 and 2022 with releases through Selected Records “How Do I Sleep Now” with Dallerium, One Seven (Sony) “Love Me, Leave Me” with Rivo, and Universal Production Music “Toy”, where I was selected to be on their ‘100% Her’ album. I’m thrilled for 2023 and working towards growing, improving and creating beautiful things with great people. The uncertainty of what’s to come just makes it that much more exciting.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My siblings Karolina and Paul. Paul is the first person I send song ideas to because he has an ear for music like no other. Also, his brutal honesty can be very humbling haha. My sister Karolina, on the other hand, is my biggest supporter to keep working when tough times come around and is so wise with her advice, which I cherish. They’re both brilliant and funny – my best friends and siblings in one.
