We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Olfactory and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I think it’s safe to say we all have moments of doubt that slip into our minds about our abilities, but giving up is simply not an option I’ve allowed myself. I don’t have to be in love with every video I make, but I have to be consistent. I constantly set new goals and voice them out loud to tell the universe and myself what I want.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It all started one day when I was out to dinner with a friend. I asked our waitress if she was wearing a particular perfume, to which she was quite insulted that I’d mistaken her expensive perfume for a more affordable celebrity perfume. I shortly began watching comparison videos, and slowly fell in love with the small world of perfume reviews. I feel like sense of smell is so incredibly underutilized, particularly during quarantine, that I enjoy helping others develop it. Scent memory is so powerful it can feel like time travel. It’s a special thing I want more people to experience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I could imagine an absolutely perfect day for myself and a friend, it’d start with a massage and pedicure, lunch at Palms Thai in Hollywood, followed by sniffing some perfume at the niche perfume store Scent Bar, catching a show at the Regent Theatre, and finish off with ice cream at my favorite spot in Highland Park called Scoops.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my husband for being in constant support of my interests. When things pique my interest, I become obsessed and need to know every detail I can get my hands on, and he is right there encouraging me. Everyone deserves a Neto.
