Meet Olumide | Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Olumide and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Olumide, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
“Stay humble” – I always wondered about this. In this industry it seems like you have to do and be the complete opposite in order for people to hear you. Now I’m not saying be a jerk, but as they say in Nigerian culture sometimes you really do have to clap for yourself.
I remember I took a survey on IG and asked my followers what they meant to them. A lot of them, surprisingly, also responded the same. It’s weird, something I haven’t figured out yet.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Hip-Hop artist from Riverdale, Maryland. I think what truly sets me apart from others is my unique perspective. I know I see and view things differently than the masses and input that into my music by just being myself. By being myself, people hear different content references because who other can be you, than you. The area I’m from, the lingo and way we pronounce certain words – it’s so dope. People thing I’m from everywhere, I’ve heard California, Texas – nah just good ol’ Maryland.
I’m most proud at how much I’ve been able to make happen independently so far on this journey. From rocking the same shows with Curren$y, A boogie wit da Hoodie, King Lil G, Shoreline Mafia on legendary stages in my hometown to getting radio play. It’s truly impressive and only gets better the more I stick to it and push. I’m excited to see how much I can push and make happen for not just me but others on this journey. It’s exciting.
Was it easy? I wouldn’t say so. But I don’t really give up in anything I do and I actually really like doing this, so none of that matters. If people, or situations are blocking the path, I find another. World too big for anyone to believe they can block your destiny. That’s probably my biggest challenge to this date – breaking through even on a local level with some of the players who can make a difference. I dunno, I just continue to push.
Lessons I learned are definitely stop comparing yourself to others. Just believe in your journey. I want the world to know I’m someone who really made it happen but not just for himself but for his community, friends, family. Show people it’s okay to build as a community and all win. I want the world to listen to my rhymes and have fun, feel emotions, and discover new ways of thinking.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ha thankfully we have DC and Baltimore. So when my cousins would visit from New York, or when any of my out of town friends came through we would most definitely hit the city. It’s the closest in proximity like, 20-30 minutes and we’re in the city. The city has everything from museums, good food, lounges and clubs, metro (if you wanna brag about that),
First day we’d probably grab some food and realax. Gotta settle in. Stick to PG County for this one because the city is hectic – only go there with intention. We got the classics like TGI Fridays, Outback – can’t go wrong with that and some drinks.
Next day rise and shine – chances are we are definitely hitting DC now. Check out the landmarks and museums. That’s a whole day right there at just 1 and we have multiple. Get some lunch on from the street vendors. Glizzy and pretzel with cheese type time and a half-half or Gatorade. Water if you healthy.
Next day back to Maryland. Taking a trip up the B/W pkwy to check out Baltimore, MD. The harbor. They have the aquarium, even more good food, and just a complete different vibe.
Next day gotta check out VA, Tysons Corner Mall or Arlington Mall. Those probably the landmark malls of the “DMV” area and metro accessible so everyone’s there from everywhere. VA got the good eats too like Yard House.
Top Golf, lounges, clubs, whole week be filled if it needs to be. But I’m not even the going out type back to back so one of them days def just cooling it at the crib lls.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We have to start off with Fly Zyah. She’s a superstar, already and if it wasn’t for her I probably would not have the opportunity to be speaking with you all right now.
Next it’s my PGN family: Byron, Grxzzly, Kilasi, Beti, Nico, Abel, Brook, Jessica, Tero – we all help elevate each other and make this dream come true.
Dave Rock, a mentor of mine since I was young. Always helped out in ways I can’t even talk about. My engineer Sergio Cortez.
Live Nation Jeff, Mark. Adam from Baltimore Soundstage. Rockeats. Ma dukes, my sisters. Cousins, uncles, extended family, co workers, John. Yeah lol
I could honestly go on. On this journey, it’s endless.
