Meet Omaira Nightshade | Owner & CEO of Horror Vibes Coffee

We had the good fortune of connecting with Omaira Nightshade and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Omaira, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking has been life-changing for me, especially when it comes to my business. I took the risk of opening a coffee shop that was horror-themed where people like me could be themselves and enjoy some fun, specialty coffee with friends and loved ones. A lot of people around me were against the idea of a horror-themed coffee shop initially and told me I would lose business if I did it, since it was such a niche idea. I was so passionate and excited about it that I moved forward with the idea and took the risk anyways. Fast forward three years, we’ve become a destination spot in Los Angeles. I always encourage those around me to take risks and to avoid letting fear get the best of them, because you truly don’t know unless you try.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own a horror-themed coffee shop here in Los Angeles called Horror Vibes Coffee. We’re a year-round spooky coffee shop where the ghouls come to gather to celebrate the eerie and unusual! Our menu is inspired by horror films and we carry spooky treats baked by other local small businesses. Our mission is to cultivate a space where people can come together and enjoy the spooky, eerie and macabre, one coffee cup at a time.
Building a business is absolutely challenging, and being a business owner comes with a lot of persistence, discipline and sacrifice. I am learning so much every day and although it comes with its challenges, the result is so rewarding. I have an incredible team that works so hard every day to help make the magic happen at Horror Vibes.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely make sure our itinerary consists of fun spooky places to visit, so we’d start out the days with some coffee at Horror Vibes. Nearby on Magnolia boulevard, there’s this strip of spooky, horror-themed businesses including Halloween Town and Vulture Culture Oddities. I’d take her for a stroll there to explore. I’d also take her to Little Damage, one of my favorite ice cream spots where they serve delicious soft serve ice cream with black waffle cones! One of my favorite pizza spots is Lucifer’s Pizza, which also has a location on Magnolia and serves delicious pizza. I’m a huge bookworm, so of course I’d recommend The Last Bookstore because of the insane book selection they carry. It’s beautiful in there!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to both of my parents for being so supportive of my career and believing in me, even when others didn’t. Words can’t fathom how grateful I am for both of them. My gratitude extends to the horror community as well, I am eternally grateful for their continuous support.
