We had the good fortune of connecting with Orno and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Orno, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued music back in 2010-2011 after discovering Daft Punk on a Nintendo DSi app called Flipnote Hatena. I was always attached to video game soundtracks from my favorite games, but upon this new discovery I heard electronic music in such a new and exciting way. From that point on, I discovered even more artists in the realm of electronic/EDM and it inspired me in a way nothing else had before.

Making music is such a therapeutic and grounding outlet for me to translate my feelings that are normally much harder to express in words. Being able to say things I want to express in the form of music is something I want to do for the rest of my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I go under the alias ‘Orno’ a name that stems from a storybook my parents had made for me that I had read when I was much younger. It was about me going on an adventure amongst dinosaurs, the main dinosaur being named ‘Orno’. It’s a very sentimental thing to me that I will hold with me forever! (I have the book on my shelf to this day.)

The music I make is a vast blend of Electronic, Dance Music/EDM, Pop, and Ambient/Cinematic. My exposure to all different kinds of music over the course of my life helped me cultivate this sound and it is always evolving. I love to lend my own voice to the music I write, and I love to fill my songs up with immersive atmospheres to give it more fullness and detail. I want my music to be a form of healing for those who come across it, music to ease.

I’m incredibly excited for a lot of the new projects I am working on, and I can’t wait to share them! I’m still learning on ways to improve every single day and never giving up. Music means so much to me and I couldn’t have got here without the support of my loved ones, my life experiences, and the artists I listen to and adore who have inspired me in so many ways.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When it comes to guests and friends who visit me out here, I think some of my favorite places to go would be:

-Malibu & most of the beaches in LA. I absolutely love the beach and being near the ocean.

-Melrose Ave

-Ventura Boulevard

-I also love taking friends to shows! Some of my favorite venues would be The Shrine, Exchange LA, The Moroccan Lounge, The NOVO, and The Roxy!

-Some of my favorite places to eat would have to be Dialog Cafe (West Hollywood), Reno’s Pizzeria (Studio City), Burger Lounge (Sherman Oaks), Nomura Sushi (Sherman Oaks), Tatsu Ramen (West Hollywood), and the list goes on!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Some of the things I’m most grateful/thankful for that got me into this position would have to be:

-My friends, who always encourage me, influence me and support me with all of their being.
-My family for also being incredibly supportive and pushing me to follow my heart.
-Video Game OSTs which became my first exposure to electronic music.
-My biggest influences in music such as Daft Punk, The 1975, Madeon, Jon Hopkins, Flume etc. (the list could go on forever) that really influenced my sound and helped it evolve over the years.

These are some of the things in my life that really have pushed me to be myself and stay true to my art.
