We had the good fortune of connecting with Oscar Bautista and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Oscar, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk has always been at the forefront of the projects and paths I take.

Moving down an artistic route, regardless of the medium, I find myself balancing out what effort and resources go into a work versus the integrity I wish to maintain.

I am in no way putting my life on the line, but the inconsistency that comes with this life and career often brings with it obstacles that others don’t.

There’s a mindset that comes with this life where scything becomes a risk/reward scenario. Ultimately you want to create, but the stars don’t always align so you have to get clever when it comes to executing a project from start to finish.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
chose to pursue a life in music and art because that was the closest I felt that I could combine self expression and self growth. I also saw it as an opportunity so I could set an example in my community for those who wished to do the same. Growing up in my community of South Central LA, I quickly realized that there was a lack of resources in the arts. The life lessons I learned growing up in the early 90’s were more about making it to the next day rather then allowing oneself the time to discover talents and passions. I chose to focus on overcoming that scarcity and dedicate myself to become an example for others who wish to explore a life in a creative field. It comes with ups and downs, as well as a lot of doubt, but the reward of following my own path has been priceless.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I’m being honest, I’m becoming more hesitant to share those spots. LA is incredibly vibrant and you could throw a rock in any direction and find something amazing to do.

To personally share my spots though, I feel like I have to charge at this point or risk having too many transplants price me out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As always I give credit to my family, more specifically my late sister who always encouraged me in my pursuit of music and art.

There was always a level of open mindedness that comes with following what makes you happy.

My parents in particular came here from Central American to create a better life for themselves. This instilled a work ethic that I apply to my music and collaborations.

Art wasn’t always in the home, but the curiosity that comes with wanting to follow a craft in art was always encouraged and forged in an independent spirit that my family holds.
