Meet Othmane El Jadid | Author, Journalist, President and founder of Moroccan Writers association, Behavioral science coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Othmane El Jadid and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Othmane, why did you pursue a creative career?
I embarked on an artistic and creative career for a multitude of deeply personal and inspiring reasons. My journey originates in a place of hardship and adversity, in a humble neighborhood known as Hay Mohammadi in Casablanca. Growing up in such an environment, I witnessed the profound impact of poverty, crime, and tragedy on the lives of many. I felt a compelling need to break the cycle of oppression that gripped my community and to provide a voice to those who had been silenced by circumstance.
As a child, I was surrounded by stories, stories of struggle, resilience, and dreams deferred. These stories, etched in my memory, urged me to become a storyteller myself. I realized that storytelling was not just an artistic pursuit, but a powerful tool for transformation, a means to convey the harsh realities of life in the ghetto, and ultimately, a way to inspire change.
My desire to create my own association, the Moroccan Writers, was born from the need to empower others to tell their stories and share their experiences. I wanted to give a platform to voices that often go unheard, to provide a sanctuary where individuals could find solace in the power of the written word.
Writing my book, “Moroccan Rhapsody,” was an extension of this mission. It allowed me to weave together the narratives of the people I grew up with and those who continue to face adversity in similar neighborhoods. Through this literary work, I aimed to shed light on the beauty, resilience, and hope that exists even in the darkest corners of our world.
Now, I am taking a step further by starting my own documentary project, “Griot.” This documentary is my way of delivering what I, myself, lacked in my childhood – a platform to share the stories of the oppressed, to unveil the hidden beauty amidst the chaos, and to provide a voice for those who have been silenced for far too long.
My artistic and creative career is not merely a pursuit of self-expression; it is a dedication to sparking change, inspiring hope, and serving as a beacon of light for those who have endured the shadows of despair. It is a testament to the enduring power of the human spirit, a reminder that even in the most challenging circumstances, one can rise above and make a difference.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a testament to the power of storytelling, a means of giving voice to the unheard and marginalized, and shedding light on the often unseen aspects of life. What sets me apart is the authenticity and raw emotion I infuse into my work. I hail from a third-world country, and the path to where I am today has been anything but easy. However, it is within the realm of art and literature that I found my true calling, effortlessly weaving narratives that captivate, inspire, and enlighten.
I am immensely proud of the fact that I’ve managed to stay true to myself and my roots. I have a burning desire to deliver the unvarnished truth while infusing it with the beauty of art. My work seamlessly blends literature with the performing arts, a fusion that allows me to reach a broader audience and convey complex ideas in a compelling and engaging manner.
Overcoming challenges has been an intrinsic part of my journey. When faced with adversity, I’ve often turned the pain into creative energy. For instance, my latest Arabic work (Angel Hunter) , an audio literature series, emerged from a profound loss, breakup, and personal tragedy. The process of creating it allowed me to transform the pain of betrayal and lies into a source of solace and inspiration, a way to connect with those who may be experiencing similar hardships.
Similarly, “Moroccan Rhapsody” drew from my childhood traumas, enabling me to explore the depths of human resilience through storytelling. The Moroccan Writers Association was born out of the absence of safe spaces that I experienced while growing up, and I felt compelled to create these spaces for others.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I’m committed to creating art that not only entertains but also educates, heals, and empowers. I aspire to share information and knowledge in a manner that is both enlightening and enjoyable, ultimately making the world a more compassionate and understanding place. My journey is a testament to the belief that even in the face of adversity, we can find our purpose and use it to uplift others, craft stories that inspire, and paint a more beautiful world through the power of art and literature.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week in Casablanca becomes a poetic odyssey through the city’s soul. We delve into its hidden depths, beginning with Hubus, where old bookstores and the timeless allure of Andalusian architecture whisper tales of yesteryears.
Within the labyrinthine streets of the Old Medina, we indulge in the delicate pleasures of begnet, awash with the decadence of jam or chocolate. The beauty of simplicity reveals itself in the form of a humble 5-dh tuna sandwich, a culinary gem embodying the essence of Casablanca.
Amidst this voyage, we pay homage to the relentless spirit of Casablanca Wydad F.C, a team that has conquered continental realms and woven its history into the fabric of the city.
Our sojourn extends to Marrakech, where the nocturnal symphony unfolds, painting the city in vibrant hues after twilight’s embrace.
Yet, it is in the company of local artist friends that our narrative finds its crescendo. These artists, bound to their homeland, forge their tales from the very stones that once bruised them. Fearless storytellers, their narratives breathe life into Casablanca and the very essence of Morocco itself.
Our journey is the canvas, our footsteps the ink, painting an artistic tapestry that captures the essence of Casablanca, a living testament to the city’s cultural richness and our collective story in this enchanting land.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely, I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to several individuals and elements that have played pivotal roles in my journey. First and foremost, I must dedicate this recognition to my parents. While it may sound cliché, their unwavering support and sacrifices have been the cornerstone of my life. They tirelessly worked to provide me with the best possible opportunities and instilled in me the values that drive my work today.
I also want to extend my gratitude to my best friend and manager, Hind. Her unwavering belief in me and her constant encouragement have been instrumental in my growth and achievements. She has been a true source of inspiration and motivation throughout my creative and professional endeavors.
I’d also like to credit the hardships and the people who made life difficult at times. These challenges, while not always pleasant, have played a crucial role in shaping my resilience and determination. They have pushed me to become strong enough to empower others and to use my voice to make a positive impact.
Moreover, I want to acknowledge those who didn’t appreciate me and, at times, went out of their way to hurt or sabotage me. While such experiences can be painful, they have also served as valuable lessons and made my journey to success all the more meaningful and enjoyable.
Lastly, I’d like to mention the many characters I’ve portrayed in my literary work. These characters are often inspired by real people who have faced life’s struggles, and some may have experienced unimaginable hardships. It’s essential to honor their stories and remember their names, as they remind us of the resilience of the human spirit and the power of storytelling to shed light on their experiences.
