We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige Parsons Roache and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paige, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
In times of challenges this saying has gotten me through: THIS TOO SHALL PASS. When I was 19, heading into my 2nd year at UC Santa Barbara, we got devastating news that one of my brothers took his own life. He had recently turned 20, and was going through some really big life challenges. Whenever I hit a wall, or one of my kids is up against something huge, I’ll remind them that THIS TOO SHALL PASS and tomorrow is a new day.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My friend Marlon nicknamed me “The Vegan Plug” as I love to connect people. It really is my jam! To think of someone and their skills, talents and goals, and bring them together with others so they can co-create is truly my fulfillment. I just love when things sync up. It gives me such joy to see collaborations happen. I think my biggest challenge along the way has been self doubt. If I get out of my own way, I can accomplish almost anything I set my mind to! And so can YOU! On another note, when Sherri and I first jumped on camera together for our show Plant Based In the ‘Burbs, we were super silly and a bit nervous. After 2 years of practicing, making mistakes and goofing off, I feel we’ve finally found our special sauce. We love to bring simple recipes and easy tips for swapping out animal products for things made from plants in every area of people’s lives. Our motto is: You want to bring more plants on your plate, and in your life, we’ll show you how. If WE can do it, so can YOU!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d start out with a hike in the hills by my home in Agoura and then have lunch at JOi Cafe for jackefruit tacos and sweet potato enchiladas. Then we’d drive over the canyon and hit the beach in Malibu for a swim or a nice hike on the sand. Afterwards, we’d head to the Getty for some art, and make our way back to the neighborhood to have dinner at Donna Jean in Sherman Oaks, Crossroads in Calabasas, or Makin’ Vegan sushi in Agoura Hills. Some of the other fun things we’d do throughout the week would be drive up to the Griffith Observatory, visit LACMA, ride bikes along the boardwalk from Santa Monica to Venice, take a stroll on Abbot Kinney Blvd and grab an acai smoothie bowl from Loco Coco. If it’s Winter, we might take a drive to Mt. Baldy for a ski day, then stop in Pasadena at Sage Plant Based Bistro for dinner. Some other delicious and cool places to dine are Nic’s on Beverly, Gracias Madre, Pura Vita in WeHO, Sugar Taco in Sherman Oaks, Avant Garden Bistro on Melrose, Stuff I Eat in Inglewood, or for a plant based burger and fries Plant Power Fast Food. We might also see a live musical at the Pantages or a live band at The Mint, The Hotel Cafe or Harvard & Stone.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Firstly, I’d like to shout out my friend and mentor Cecilie Stuart, who gave me my first job in the entertainment business as her assistant in her talent management company. I learned respect, commitment, perseverance, how to be unstoppable and how to have fun while accomplishing our goals. Next love shout out is to my awesome husband of 26 years, who’s supported me every step of the way in my passions. He’s the rock to my roll! On my journey, I’d also like to acknowledge Dan Harary who taught me the Hollywood PR ropes, Mitch Kirsch of Planet Events, who bought me into the events producing world, Jane Velez-Mitchell, media maven and founder of UnchainedTV, providing me with multiple opportunities, including media content producing, talent booking and hosting vegan cooking shows. One of my key mentors is my sister-in-law Christiana, who is a powerful business woman who leads with love and integrity. Every day, I take actions towards creating a vegan world, motivated by a pinky promise Climate Healers’ founder Dr. Sailesh Rao and his granddaughter Kimaya made 6 yrs. ago, along with a realization that animals have a will to live (after I gave pigs water as they were being transported into a slaughterhouse with the animal rights group Animal Save Movement.) I am guided by the principles of Agape International Spiritual Center, led by Reverend Michael Beckwith and find peace in the teachings of Ernest Holmes. In addition, I’m motivated by the Rev’s words “We are all special, unique emanations of God, spiritual beings having a physical experience here on Earth. And So It Is!”
