We had the good fortune of connecting with Pakoh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pakoh, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Pursuing a career as a glass artist is a captivating journey fueled by a natural inclination for creativity and craftsmanship. Working with glass offers a unique opportunity to blend artistry with technical skill, shaping molten material into intricate forms that captivate the eye and stir the imagination. Whether it’s blowing, casting, or sculpting, the process of creating with glass requires a delicate balance of precision and intuition, making it a medium that resonates deeply with those who are drawn to it. As a glass artist, one has the freedom to explore various techniques and styles, pushing the boundaries of the medium to create works that are truly distinctive and reflective of their artistic vision.

Being your own boss as a glass artist amplifies the sense of creative autonomy and ownership over one’s work. With the freedom to set your own schedule and choose the projects you take on, there’s ample room for experimentation and self-expression. Whether it’s designing custom pieces for clients, exhibiting in galleries, or teaching workshops, the ability to carve out a niche in the art world and forge meaningful connections with collectors and enthusiasts is both empowering and fulfilling. While the journey may entail challenges such as sourcing materials, marketing, and managing finances, the rewards of sculpting molten glass into works of art that evoke wonder and admiration make the pursuit of a career as a glass artist a truly enriching endeavor.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In my journey as a glass artist, I’ve sought to infuse my creations with a distinct aesthetic that draws inspiration from a rich tapestry of influences spanning art history, street art, and pop culture. Embracing the eclectic nature of these diverse realms, I’ve cultivated a style that transcends traditional boundaries, blending classical motifs with contemporary elements to forge a truly unique artistic vision. Drawing from the bold colors and dynamic compositions of street art, I imbue my glasswork with a sense of urban vibrancy and energy.

At the same time, my deep appreciation for art history serves as a guiding light, infusing my creations with a sense of reverence for the masters while simultaneously subverting traditional conventions. From incorporating subtle nods to art movements of the past, my work pays homage to the legacy of artistic innovation while pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the medium. Moreover, my love for pop culture acts as a thread that ties everything together, infusing my pieces with a playful irreverence and a sense of nostalgia that speaks to the zeitgeist of our times. By weaving together these threads into a cohesive whole, I’ve created a body of work that is both timeless and contemporary, offering viewers a window into a world where art history, street art, and pop culture converge in a celebration of creativity.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe much of my success and ability to pursue my passion to the unwavering support of my wife. Her encouragement, understanding, and belief in my artistic endeavors have been instrumental in navigating the highs and lows of a career as an artist. From providing emotional support during creative blocks to offering practical assistance in managing the business side of my artistic pursuits, her presence has been a constant source of strength and inspiration. Her willingness to share in the challenges and triumphs of this journey, coupled with her unwavering belief in my abilities, has made it possible for me to pursue my dreams with confidence and determination. Without her support, navigating the complexities of being a glass artist and being my own boss would undoubtedly be a far more daunting task.
