We had the good fortune of connecting with Pam Griffiths and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pam, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

WHAT WAS YOUR THOUGHT PROCESS BEHIND STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS? I felt as though my TV producing career had run its course and it was time to think of Plan B. I had long thought about what I wanted to do next and the opportunity presented itself quite organically. I started doing some research. You have to learn/know what you are getting yourself into before diving headfirst. The real estate profession has many successful business owners who share online what it takes to be an owner of your own business.

SOCIAL IMPACT: HOW DOES YOUR BUSINESS HELP THE COMMUNITY OR THE WORLD?
I look at my impact on a smaller scale – more individually based. In other words, how can I help this first-time buyer find the right property that will not only act as a forced savings account but possibly be their retirement fund? Yes – I do think about those things.

RISK TAKING: HOW DO YOU THINK ABOUT RISK, WHAT ROLE HAS TAKING RISKS PLAYED IN YOUR LIFE/CAREER?
I’ve always said, if “you are afraid of hearing the word ‘No,’ then don’t leave your hometown. Stay safe, don’t move, get a job at the local bank. This was never an option for me. Risk is in my DNA. A recent read during Covid was “Fear is Fuel” – it makes perfect sense to do things out of your comfort zone. My father always said, what’s the worst thing that could happen? Someone can say “no.” I learned early to say “okay” and “next.”

IF YOU ARE A PARENT, WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST IMPRTANT THING YOU’VE DONE AS A PARENT IN TERMS OF THE IMPACT ON YOUR CHILDREN?
Charlie has taught me the need to understand unseen fears, Billy has taught me patience when talking to the moon and Chula has taught me that with enough patience, you don’t have to pee and poop where you sleep. Basically, my furry kids (dogs) taught me patience and pure love.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR BEHIND YOUR SUCCESS/THE SUCCESS OF YOUR BRAND?
I would like to be known for being honest, transparent and someone with integrity. In real estate, you are dealing with people’s life savings and future. I take it all personally, as if I was the one buying the house. My work in television has gifted me with the ability to read people.

HOW TO KNOW WHETHER TO KEEP GOING OR TO GIVE UP?
How can you give up if you have another day in front of you? If you are lucky – as I am – you have multiple friends, mentors, family members to answer to. Keep moving forward. I think I need this as a tattoo.

WORK LIFE BALANCE: HOW HAS YOUR BALANCE CHANGED OVER TIME? HOW DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE BALANCE?
When nobody is looking? I take a nap. When I don’t have any appointments? I clean my office. When I have a busy day and way, way too much on my plate? I make sure to pull weeds in the yard and sweep the driveway. That, believe it or not, balances me.

WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY? WHY?
Handing keys to someone once a deal closes makes me so happy. To think they just spent a shit ton of money and I hand them one key with a 99 Cent Store key chain. What could be crazier? Also my dogs are sheer, unadulterated joy. My partner makes me laugh on an hourly basis. Oh – laughter is key. You have to laugh. The opposite – crying – is not an option in real estate!

WHY DID YOU PURSUE AN ARTISTIC OR CREATIVE CAREER?
I always knew I wanted to work in TV. Once I got radio out of my system – thanks to all my friends traveling the world and making a lot more money than I was – I dove headfirst. I love creating content, coming up with ideas then seeing them on the screen months later. I traveled extensively, met many famous and infamous people along the way. I loved their stories and loved putting those stories together. There is a sense of satisfaction knowing that what you produced could be seen by the masses. What was the question again?

HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS?
I define success as going to bed every night knowing I did my best. I acted with integrity, I tried my best, I tried to be the best me. Success is also all about a healthy body and a good night sleep. Without those two, your world would suck.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe my career in television was perfect training for me when I decided to become a realtor. There are many similarities – scheduling, writing, working with clients, business and legal – the list goes on and on. Knowing how to communicate and listen are two of the biggest and strongest skills you have to know in order to properly navigate all the unique situations you find yourself in. I prefer to be proactive (thanks producing!) and consider real estate as a two way street. Straight forward communication is a must as is integrity, honesty and transparency.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So how to do Los Angeles in one week? Be ready to spend a lot of time in the car! I love giving the Sunset tour to friends who visit. You start at Sunset and Pacific Coast Highway and take Sunset through all the different neighborhoods until you reach downtown. A drive on Mulholland is a must. I would then go to a few art openings and for sure hit Hauser & Worth on 3rd Street. I would grab an adult beverage at the gallery’s bar, Manuela and people watch. Dessert would be two scoops at Salt & Straw. One of the best parts about being a realtor is checking out all the different neighborhoods and checking out all the open houses.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
