We had the good fortune of connecting with Parker Macy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Parker, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
Honestly, record shops were such a huge part of my formative years & I just want to be that for others. There were a handful of clerks at the shops i went to who made me feel welcome & part of their community even when I was just a kid. I remember which records they showed me. I think of them every time I hear those records to this day. Being a part of somebody’s soundtrack is a huge responsibility that I don’t take lightly.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve been running my own record store in Costa Mesa for 10 years. We operate out of a 22 foot airstream trailer. We can only carry about 6000 albums at a time due to space constraints, but because of that, we don’t have room for a ton of filler. Of course it’s been a difficult road, but the stress and hard work is always worth it.

The most important lesson that I’ve learned was taught to me by my parents long before my shop opened. Treat people fair and honestly. I buy records for more than I could and charge less than I should. This messes with my margins, but I get to hold
My head up high and smile every time I make a sale, knowing that I did everything within my power to provide a great service to the folks who sold me their collection & the folks giving these records a new life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There was a guy named Ernie Mynatt that worked in several record shops when I was growing up. He showed me a million great records and even more about identifying collectible copies of those records. Unfortunately, he passed away several years ago. At the time, I had already opened my shop but he never had a chance to come visit. I think about him every time I show a kid a record for the first time.
