We had the good fortune of connecting with Pat Dietz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pat, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Really, I was doing it for quite a while before I realized I had a business. One of the good reasons for becoming a musician is to avoid regular life. One afternoon I was teaching Jerry Kelly to play classical guitar and she said “ You are doing really well for yourself, you have your own business.” That was the first time it occurred to me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Music has always been relatively easy for me but figuring out all the other skills it takes to survive was a lot of work. My brother and I were fortunate to not really have any safety net so we had to keep trying things that paid something. I think some people refer to it as Edisonian research. It did not take as many tries as Thomas Edison took to find the filament material but it was a similar process.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots are the beach, McCabes guitar shop, my living room and anywhere Bob Dylan or Lucinda Williams are playing. Other than that any visitors would have to follow me around while I work. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I usually dedicate things to my mother. I would not be here if not for her.
