We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Cunningham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patrick, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
“Staying close to the customer” is a habit I continue to cultivate in my work as an educator and business person. I’m continually learning how great teachers not only guide their students, but also accompany them. Carefully listening to young people — to their anxieties, goals, and dreams — is the first step to helping them succeed in a meaningful, sustained way. Likewise, the same principle holds true when working with their parents. As a parent of school-age children myself, I know that, while I want clear answers and expert advice, I also want an ally and a sounding board.

What should our readers know about your business?
We work with students one-on-one to prepare them for standardized tests: SAT, ACT, ISEE, HSPT, all the acronyms! Many tutoring companies are little more than dispatchers — sending lightly-vetted college grads to work with students who (in many cases) are only a few years younger than they are. Everyone suffers: parents are overcharged, the tutors are under-trained, and students don’t received the targeted, expert instruction they deserve.

At MightyPrep, we flip the model. Our employee-educators average a decade or more of relevant teaching experience, and have worked with hundreds of students. Working with a veteran educator — especially if the student has learning differences or special needs — can transform high-stakes testing into a positive, empowering experience. Students sense the difference immediately and, more importantly, see it reflected in their test results.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
You can’t go wrong with tasting-testing the famous French Dips of downtown. Having a sandwich at Cole’s French Dip and then walking the mile down Los Angeles Street for the same order at Phillipe The Original is a multi-faceted education in the tastes, sights and sounds of DTLA. Plus, you will finally have an answer to that age old question, “Who does it better?”

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
MightyPrep’s success is the result of the devoted support of our students and their families, full stop. Since we began offering best-in-class tutoring in 2018, client referrals have been responsible for 100% for our growth. Our website is a single page with our name and phone number!
