We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Goss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrick, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process was simply that I didn’t want to hate what I did for a living. I really wanted to be able to work in a field that I enjoy and am passionate about and be able to enjoy my Mondays and Wednesdays as much as my Fridays and Saturdays. I am also one of the only people in my family to take this route of building something from scratch and that feeling of exploring and navigating something that is unknown is exciting to me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make electronic music or the more specific genre would be Future Bass. I love the contrast of super emoti0nal vocals and instrumentals with powerful energizing drops, there isn’t anything else like it for me. Recently I have been exploring giving my tracks more Pop Punk/Rock influence by using acoustic drum kits and making guitars the focal point of a lot of my tracks. I feel like the only way to stand out is to make music that is new and unique but also feels familiar to the listener and the easiest way for me to do that is to take the two genres I love the most and try to mash them together.
To get where I am now it took a lot of consistent work over a long time but I wouldn’t necessarily say it was hard because I truly enjoyed every second of it. I get the most joy when I am making music so for me it was easy to work hard every day at my craft. But while I didn’t consider it hard I would absolutely not say it was easy. There is a lot of time you have to spend working at all aspects of music creation in order to make anything that can compete with the best musicians so if you don’t enjoy the process of creating and learning then it will be exponentially harder.
The biggest lesson I have learned so far is that the most important component to building or learning anything is putting in the work CONSISTANTLY. You have to show up and put in the work every single day if you want to build any meaningful momentum.
The only thing I want people to take away from my brand or story is that anyone can do this and you can start at any time. I started my musical journey at 20 years old with no prior musical training what so ever. If you asked any of my childhood friends what they thought I would be when I grew up a music artist would be the last item of any of their lists. I really think if you are lucky enough to have an intense passion for anything in life you are only cheating yourself if you don’t go for it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In my city I would take them to Fenway to see a Red Sox game, then out to eat at a real authentic Boston Pub. Then the next day I would take them to one of the many beaches in my home town of Gloucester, MA and after grab some Ice Cream and check out one of the nice walking spots around Gloucester where there are amazing views of the ocean.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off my parents have been a vital part of my journey so far. Their encouragement and support has meant the world to me and there is no way I would be in the position I am without them so everything I accomplish goes to them. Another person that has been an important part of my journey is a man by the name of Charlie Rocket. The day I listened to his episode of the “Ya Neva Know” podcast it really changed the way I approached life and thought me the power of positive thinking. Being able to listen to his incredible story really motivated me and showed me you really can do anything you want.
