We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Balancing work and personal life is one the hardest challenges when running your own business. What’s helped me is setting realistic goals for the day and month and writing them down. Then when I’m pulled in 20 directions at once (which with three kids at home, distraction is part of the gig) I’m able to regroup and get back on track quickly. As the business grows, the balance shifts and being intentional about setting healthy boundaries in work is important. We live in a time where people can have access to you through social media and online sales 24/7. Being intentional about setting your phone down at a certain time is helpful in maintaining work life balance. Give yourself time slots throughout the day that are dedicated to social media and responding to customers. You’ll be able to be more present in your day when you know you’ll have time to respond to comments and inquiries later.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
“I finally feel good about myself!”, “I never realized I had a style until I met you!”, “I finally have confidence in myself again!”, “I’m known as the office style queen and I use to always feel frumpy!” These are the comments and reactions I hear often. It truly makes my heart smile to be able to make a living helping women to see what’s already there- their own beauty! My goal has always been to help women feel confident, stylish and beautiful. A lot of my customer-friends are women who have had kids or have hit an age where clothes just don’t look the same anymore and they aren’t sure how to style themselves. My goal is to help women gain that confidence back and look amazing doing so.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d highly recommend the Anaheim Packing House. It is one of my favorite places for date night and family night out! Plenty of foodie options, great vibe and kid friendly. If you are visiting my area, Disneyland is a must. Spend a day or 3 there, it will never be enough time!
Old town orange is a charming stroll through shops with food options, small boutiques, plant stores, antiques and truly something for everyone.
My family loves being outdoors so if that’s your jam then spending a full day at Irvine park is definitely on the agenda. They have a zoo, pony rides, train ride, trails to hike, play grounds, bbq grills and on Tuesday mornings the farmers market!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have the best customer-friends! The ladies that shop with me are so much more than customers, they are the ones that spread my shop name around, they shop with me consistently, they go out of their way to tag my store in their posts, they laugh along with me during my Lives and they are the the true VIP’s that keep my store strong.
