We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrique Addison, LCSW and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrique, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I worked for a non-profit agency for over 7 years and I loved working with people on an individual level. But I had a burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit and I wanted more agency over my work with clients. This led me into creating my own business where I can still support people on their healing journeys.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The journey to starting my business was not easy! Coming from working within an organization, I had no idea how to start my own business but I had a vision of helping people and I was dedicated to that vision. Once you become fixated on a vision, nothing can deter you from making it happen. I researched for months to make sure I was doing everything correctly and joined groups for therapists starting their own business as well. There were days I struggled and doubted myself or wished I’d stayed with the organization. But during those dark moments, I allowed myself to cry, meditate, exercise and connect with my spirituality. This is something that makes my therapy business different. I teach others how to connect with spirituality and heal from past traumas when traditional therapy hasn’t worked in the past. Viewing issues though a spiritual lens often allows people to look outside of themselves for the answers that have plagued them for months and even years.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My business is located in Walnut Creek, California and San Francisco is very close. I’d start the tour in Walnut Creek and have lunch at either Lita or Torsap Kitchen. I love Thai food so it’s a must that we go there first. Next, I’d go to the city (Bay Area natives refer to SF as the city). I like to do out of the ordinary type of activities so I might take a friend to Alcatraz island for some spooky history! We MUST ride the cable cars around for scenic views. Then, we’d go to the Exploratoriam which is an iconic specialty museum.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give a shout to two books in particular that have changed my life for the better. You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay and Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joe Dispenza. These books dive deep into the subconscious and teach you how to completely rewire the way your mind thinks. It taught me how to shed unhealthy negative thought patterns that had the potential to completely take over my life and become a new healthier version of myself. I highly recommend both books to anyone who is looking to improve your life for the better.
