We had the good fortune of connecting with Paty Fernandes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paty, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Working with music has always been my dream and my greatest motivation. From a young age, I knew this was the career path I wanted, and I’ve never envisioned myself doing anything else. My journey began by playing in bands and collaborating with different companies and artists, where I quickly noticed recurring issues, especially concerning how musicians were treated. It was surprising how often basic necessities were overlooked. These experiences led me to reflect deeply on what an ideal environment for artists should look like—one that truly allows them to perform at their best. In 2020, I launched my own project, Duet Paty & Leo, a voice-and-guitar duo. This gave me the freedom to establish conditions I consider essential, not by making extravagant demands but by prioritizing the basics that ensure respect and value for artistic work. Starting my own business was a way to take ownership of my career and actively create a space where my values and vision for the music industry could thrive.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
From a very young age, I knew that music would be an essential part of my life—there was never any doubt. This certainty has shaped the essence of my art, resonating in every melody and interpretation. With a degree in music and a career that began early, I carry in my voice the fusion of my Brazilian roots with the emotion and rhythm that fuel my greatest passion.

I love exploring different genres, such as Brazilian music, jazz, and pop, blending them to create something fresh and timeless. My greatest motivation is to genuinely connect with people through an intimate performance or a collaborative project. For me, singing goes beyond mere expression; it serves as a bridge between what I feel and what I share with the world.

What sets me apart is my ability to blend authenticity with versatility. My Brazilian heritage provides a rich rhythmic and melodic foundation, allowing me to move naturally across different styles. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of performing in various musical settings—from intimate shows to large stages and studio collaborations. These experiences have taught me the value of listening, adaptability, and the constant pursuit of excellence. Each project presents a new opportunity to explore creative expression and build meaningful connections with audiences and fellow musicians.

I take great pride in my journey with my husband, Leo Testoni, through our duo, Duet Paty & Leo; From recording with legends like Danny Gottlieb to performing for large audiences in Paris and touring across Italy, every experience is a testament to our dedication and love for music. I’m excited about our new album, set to be released later this year, and the opportunities it will bring to connect with people through our art.

Making a living from music today is no easy feat, and my journey has been filled with challenges and valuable lessons. Without a doubt, the biggest challenge so far has been moving to the United States. Adapting to a new culture and an unfamiliar music scene brought unique complexities, but it also broadened my perspective and deeply enriched my artistic expression.
I know the road ahead is long, but each step represents an opportunity for growth and fulfillment. What inspires me most to keep going is the chance to bring Brazilian music to new audiences—this connection gives meaning to everything I do.

I overcame challenges by staying resilient, open-minded, and deeply connected to my passion for music. Surrounding myself with supportive and inspiring people has been essential in helping me move forward with purpose and determination. Collaboration has played a key role in this journey—working with talented musicians and learning from each experience has allowed me to grow, overcome obstacles with greater clarity, and continue evolving artistically.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is the importance of never giving up. Staying true to myself and my story has made all the difference in my music and personal journey. I’ve also learned the value of perseverance and the beauty of connecting with others through shared passion and creativity.

I want the world to know that my music comes from a place of love and strong determination. It reflects my roots, experiences, and the joy of creating something meaningful. Whether performing live or working in the studio, I aim to inspire and connect with people. My story is one of determination, passion, and a deep belief in the power of art to bring us closer together.
