Meet Paul James Houghton | Dreamotion Studios Founder/CEO, Filmmaker, Screenwriter and Creative Producer.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul James Houghton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul James, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I truly believe Quality is essential to the success of a product and/or brand like Dreamotion Studios. Quality is a ‘result’ in the form of ‘value’ based on the expectations set by or for the customer via brand definition and the ability to meet those expectations, and 1 of the 4 critical pillars defining Brand Equity. Brand Awareness, Brand Association, Brand Loyalty and Quality are those pillars, but Quality is the defining characteristic you can and should install instantly. Quality can immediately influence your brand, whereas the other defining pillars need time to develop. Additionally, excellent quality is easily and swiftly recognized and contributes to all other defining pillars. If the content created by a production company is of a high quality, including the contributing sub-elements such as the narrative, video, audio, editing, color, music and so on, you can be confident additional projects and clients will materialize. In short, the variable ‘x-factor’ in the resulting quality of a film, production or project is often defined by the associated expertise, experience and talent. Dreamotion Studios has these key elements.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been a creative and ambitious individual, but wasn’t able to commit to a career in film and running Dreamotion Studios until recent years. Although I sold a screenplay to a major studio in 2006, I had to maintain my position in design while supporting my family, before resigning at the peak of my career as Vice President of Design at a luxury automotive company. However, this path taught me essential leadership skills and installed priceless expertise and experience, which I believe have significantly contributed to both my film making roles and in running a quality production company. For example, I felt incredibly comfortable and confident directing my recent film, and Dreamotion Studios is exceptionally organized and operates to very high standards while producing content of the highest quality and caliber. I understand excellence and success is achieved with a great team, and I am always looking to work with proven experts, while also identifying the potential in raw talent. I sincerely believe in diversity and respect and my perspective on this never waivers, With a family full of talented creative individuals, including my parents and grandparents, I’m proud to state I possess the same creative genes. I feel genuinely fortunate to be passionate about my work and work with continuous passion!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Seal Beach, California is a wonderful and beautiful place in which to live, and I am proud to call this city my home. I have traveled the world and I truly feel this is the absolute perfect place for me to be. The people here are fantastic. When visitors come from near or far, I make sure to stop in at O’Malley’s Irish Pub on Main Street. It’s a great and authentic establishment, run by genuine and friendly people. I am such a fan, it was important to me we filmed relevant scenes from our latest film at O’Malley’s. And they welcomed us with open arms. There are plenty of excellent cities and towns to visit nearby, including Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Newport Beach and so on. And, of course, Los Angeles is close enough to enjoy. I am a member of the Long Beach Aquarium, where I often take my daughters (London and Hayley). Another small gem, especially for a day out with the children, is the Santa Ana Zoo. Not forgetting, of course, the Los Angeles Zoo, which is always a fun day out. There’s fantastic and unique architecture all around us, from the diverse homes and buildings in Los Angeles and Hollywood to the slender beach homes throughout the beach cities. There’s just so much to experience in Southern California, and the sun is always shining!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to commend the cast, crew, investors and supporters of the recently completed film; ‘From Under The Bridge: When Bullies Become Trolls, which is a very important narrative about bullying and cyber-bullying and inspired by real events. The exceptional quality of this film is a direct result of everyone involved. I believe a film is only as good as it’s weakest attributes, and we were fortunate to have incredibly talented personnel working on every aspect of the film. And our dedicated investors and supporters, such as Lucas Ferrara, ensured the film progressed from concept to completion without a disruption or dilution in quality. I’m personally proud of the film and sincerely appreciate each and every person involved. A special ‘thank YOU’ goes out to my producers (Connie Jo Sechrist and Marti Eulberg), post production team (Phil McLaughlin, Billy Hobson, Danny Varela and Keith Pullman), and musicians (Alexander Arntzen, Justin Busch and Heidi Merrill).
