We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul-Mikél Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul-Mikél, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Well, the saying “No risk, no reward” is definitely true. As a performer, risks are all I take. Risks are what get you the rewards in this business. My mom driving hours to auditions and having to pay for gas is a huge risk, and there are more that I can tell you about. But, I learned that if you put as much work as your parents, coaches, managers and agents do into this intense risk, you will, without question, reap the rewards.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I’m most proud of is actually my team. Day in and day out, they are constantly searching for my next project, always being encouraging even when they have lives of their own they’re taking care of! But, my team isn’t just limited to my agents and manager. My mom, dad, brothers and others in the business have all pitched in to help me. They’re what have given me the strength to overcome those hard challenges such as the large amount of denial that may come with this job early on, or sustaining the determination. But, their resilience has turned into my resilience, and I am forever grateful and eager to share them in this story. Because they, too, are my brand.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, first of all places, I would show them to “Mr. Fries Man”, one of the best restaurants ever. Then I would finish it off with my Baskin Robbin’s favorite: A cup of Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Right after the Lord God, my mom is easily my biggest influence and deserves ALL of the credit. For 10 years, she has been taking me to auditions, signing all of the paperwork, doing taxes, and so much more. Couldn’t have done it without her, LET ALONE be on this planet.
