We had the good fortune of connecting with Paula Loos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paula, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Great question…. I’m from Amsterdam and started working in film after graduating the Graphics Design school and the Film school In Amsterdam. I’m always into making an Global impact trough design in film. This is what brought me to Los Angeles to design films and commercials. With coming from Europe and working in the US and beyond, the movies that I design will have an authentic look.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community? What sets you apart from other?
What sets me apart is really the willpower to not give up… even when people say things are not possible, just proof them it’s possible. When I mentioned in the Netherlands that I wanted to work in LA with big studio films like Sony Pictures and Paramount Pictures most people thought that that would never happen. To much competition and complicated paperwork to get into the union…. but guess what, every time I moved forward and got a step closer to goals that motivates me to keep on going. A lesson that I learned along the way is that there are multiple ways to Rome… not one. If you can not go over the mountain you got around it.. or through the mountain if needed. What I would like the world to know is.. go after what you want and don’t let that inner voice or other people stop you…. be in integrity with your self and others. Walk your talk, and it will happen… don’t life the live of others, choose your own. I’m very excited to let you know that my upcoming movie will be released on October 30th called “Spell” produced by Paramount Pictures. Check out the trialer. https://www.youtube.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Javista organic Coffee on Sunset boulevard. It’s close to my house, the people are so friendly and consistent. My favorite coffee is an hemp latte. The sandwiches from Gwen’s butcher shop are amazing! You have to know… I don’t eat meat myself or at least as less as possible…Gwen is serving great alternatives for meat sandwiches. What keeps me in shape is hiking on Rayon Canyon. Every morning I hike for 2 hours… this is a great start of the day. To clear my mind to be creative. My friends often join me. We take the time to share thoughts and speculate about the future and creating new opportunities.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The support I received was absolutely from my friends and family from Amsterdam. Without the solid background I’m abble to do what I do. If ever “shit hits the van” there is always a way back .I’m really thankful that this is a possibility that my family created for me. To be straight forward, the support wasn’t always like this… my parents didn’t want to see me leave to LA, simple because the love me.
