We had the good fortune of connecting with Pavle Kujundzic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pavle, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
I was brought up in a creative household – my mother put importance on creativity but never forced it – I wish to create a space for all to safely explore their creativity, regardless of the chosen medium, and to provide them with guidance when needed. I don’t know if that means having a school, or an arts foundation – but a place where people of all ages get to explore their creativity safely and with the support we all deserve, to blossom into our selves.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make music – I’ve been making music for over 15 years, but haven’t taken it seriously, as a potential career until covid gave me the peace and quiet to explore and see what I really enjoyed. I am currently most excited about the world that I’m building for my 1st EP – the little nest that I plan to release my music out of.

I feel like more lessons will emerge from the process of releasing music and the following music videos and performances I will need to do – but the biggest lesson thus far has been that external opinions have no place in my creative process -everyone has opinions, some people agree and understand what I’m doing and others don’t – I can only rely on my own curiosity to guide me in the creative process – otherwise my link with inspiration is broken and I’m left with my fears trying to write music and please everyone – which just isn’t enjoyable.

The only thing I’d like “the world” to know about me is that I’m exploring all aspects of myself, through my music – I hope it gives them space to see the beauty in all aspects of themselves – the good, bad and ugly

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are a few must do’s:

NATURE:
1. Malibu – picnic on Broad Beach – Beautiful homes and a calm, not too crowded beach. Otherwise I’d take them to Paradise Cove Beach Cafe – the food is whatever but the setting is awesome – as the name suggests, you’re actually on the sand in a small cove in Malibu;
2. Point Dume trail – short but sweet hike around the famous cliff, with the view of the ocean;
3. Sandstone Peak – a beautiful, easy, ‘there and back’ hike with an incredible view from the top of the Santa Monica Mountains;
4. Huntington Library and Gardens – this place is legendary, it has several different gardens, showcasing fauna from various parts of the world – you can spend hours there exploring, eating, smelling the incredible flowers, zening out in the Japanese garden… it’s amazing!

FOOD:
1. Korea Town – one of my favorite KBBQ spots is Park’s BBQ, but a lot of them are great! Mumu Bakery for desert!;
2. Sawtelle Japan Town – Tsujita for ramen, but just walking around and seeing what seems good is a great way to go too!;
3. Leo’s Taco truck in Echo Park;
4. Pho 87 in China Town;
5. The Win-Dow burger joint in Silver Lake.

CULTURE:
1. Hauser & Wirth always has something cool in their showrooms – and their book store is *chef’s kiss*;
2. Getty Center – a beautiful mix of architecture, nature and art – all packed into one place;
3. LACMA – A staple, lot’s of iconic things to see there;
4. Maybe a live show at the Lodge Room if we’re lucky???

LA is full of cool stuff… pricey at times, but worth the experience!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother, Marina Vasiljevic-Kujundzic, is the first and foremost person that deserves credit for nurturing my love for all forms of art, music included, and for nurturing my freedom in creative exploration. “There’s no mistakes in art” she used to say whenever I ran to her with a perceived mistake on my drawings.

My father would have to be the second as he supported our family in a different way, and created a safe space for us, regardless of the turbulence that was going on in the world.

My wife Fanny, she has inspired me in so many ways over the years. Even though she doesn’t always get some of my early ideas it’s for a good reason – she has a keen sense of taste that I respect. She asks good questions that push me to improve. She has shared a tone of cool, inspiring music with me. And I think most importantly, since we met, she’s been insistent on us going on trips, short or long, it doesn’t matter, just going… this always proves to be refreshing and inspiring.
