Meet Payam Farzan | CPA

We had the good fortune of connecting with Payam Farzan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Payam, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My motivation behind starting my own business was to achieve financial and personal freedom. I initially asked myself, “Can I do this?’ But I knew that as a CPA, there is always a need for my services. I saw an opportunity to provide big firm accounting services at competitive prices to small businesses and entrepreneurs. As the first person in my family to pursue entrepreneurship, it represented an added risk, but both my family and my fiancé provided me with their full support. Once I had their support, my decision became a lot easier. There are so many benefits of having your own business, and it’s only when you start one that you truly realize them.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Farzan Financial Solutions we offer bookkeeping and accounting services to help you maintain accurate records of your financial transactions. We consider ourselves industry agnostic, but like to focus on consumer products/real estate, entertainment, and professional services. Our team can handle all aspects of your accounting needs, including financial reporting, planning and analysis, bank reconciliations, payroll, accounts payable and receivable.
What sets us apart is that we provide quality you would expect from bigger firms for competitive prices, coupled with our unwavering commitment to excellence. We offer outsourced services to businesses or individuals that are looking for an alternative solution to hiring in-house employees. I take pride in clients coming to me when they are dissatisfied with their current situation or need advice. Their decision to work with me is what I value most.
I still have a long way to go before achieving my goals, but that’s the fun part. Your accomplishments mean something because you’re helping people and building a legacy for yourself. The hardest part is getting yourself out there and building your brand. Prior to starting my own company, I never had to worry about business development, but now I am continuously working on promoting myself and my company.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
LA has no shortage of great food and things to do, so my best friend would be in for a treat. We would definitely spend a lot of time on the west side, I love being by the beach. Venice has really evolved and their food scene is so amazing that you really can’t go wrong. We would start the day off with some basketball on the beach in Venice, then head over to breakfast at Gjelina or Great White. We’d take a stroll on Abbott Kinney enjoying some of the shops. Eventually we would head back out for dinner at Dudley Market then finish the night with some drinks at Roosterfish.
We would absolutely need a couple days in Venice because I’d still need to take my best friend to try American Beauty and Gran Blanco and check out the Hotel Erwin rooftop for some great views.
Checking out Sawtelle is a must for the best Japanese food in town. We would have way too many places to choose from but my top choice would be one of the few variations of Tsujita Ramen restaurants along the block.
What’s a visit to LA without experiencing some shopping? Century City mall has a lot of fun shops and restaurants and it’s in the center of LA so you can also stop by and window shop in some of the touristy areas like Beverly Hills.
I might be a little biased coming from an Iranian background, but Persian food is a must, especially in LA. Shamshiri Grill in Westwood and Raffi’s place in Glendale are my two favorite spots.
Eating won’t be all we would do though. If it’s during the summer time there are a lot of concerts in exhibition park or Pershing Square in Downtown LA or if its soccer season then we would have to go to an LAFC match.
I grew up in the South Bay, so I would take them down there for a more laidback beach vibe to close out the visit. We would probably spend the day in Manhattan beach and end it with a delicious steak dinner at Arthur J.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are few people I’d like to shoutout:
My good friend and mentor, Will Tanem – He was my supervisor at BPM, LLP, where I held my first public accounting job. His guidance on effective leadership and his technical accounting knowledge was great motivation for me and something to aspire to. He’s now a partner at BPM and continues be someone I exchange ideas with.
My fiancé, Sabeen – She has shown endless support and continuously provides me with reassurance. Even when things look grim, she finds a way to make it a learning experience.
Books – The E Myth is objectively one of the pillars to starting your own business. This is a must read for any entrepreneur, outlining the traps you can fall into when starting your own business.
