We had the good fortune of connecting with Penny and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Penny, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk is a HUGE part of being a creative artist or a business owner. if you are not willing to risk potential failure, you will never be willing to take that leap of faith it takes to get beyond your own comfort zone. For me as a musician, if I’m not willing to risk trying something new, or being willing to go against the grain, then I risk never reaching my creative potential. Greatness is never found operating in the constraints of ones insecurities, thus worrying about what other people will think of what you are doing, is one of the biggest walls you can hit. Without willing to risk it all…….will you ever truly find what you are looking for in life? Take that Leap and never look back!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Ive always had this magnetic force that has always drawn me into music and creative writing. Ever since I was a little kid and my older brother brought a cassette home of Nine Inch Nails’ first album “Pretty Hate Machine” I was hooked to this new discovery of self expression and music. I was 6. Fast forwarding 20 years, music is still just as much apart of my life as it ever has been. I love to incorporate different styles of song writing when it comes to my music. My Upcoming project “The Fall of Man” is a deeper and more vulnerable look into what I’ve gone through in life. Its essentially about my journey and struggles through a broken past and addictions, fighting against what seemed at times like a split personality, and finally making it through this dark tunnel and discovering myself through love and salvation. Having a revelation that made sense of all that I’d gone through. I am really proud of “The Fall of Man” and excited to share it with the world. Hopefully others can relate with the storylines and can identify with who I am as a human being and that what I’ve gone through. After all, its just a reflection of what millions of others go through as well. Thats what art and music is all about right?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I definitely gotta admit I’m a feign for some bomb LA tacos. So you definitely gotta hit up all the great street spots like Taco Elvanado, Angel’s Tijuana Tacos, and Birrieria San Marcos (just to name a few). L’Antica Pizzeria in Hollywood is a great place to go and grab dinner and drinks. they have a beautiful indoor/outdoor dining area with a great atmosphere. Jon & Vinnys in the Fairfax district is probably my favorite place to grab some great Italian food that I highly recommend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and fore most I want to give a shout out to God…..with out my faith, i wouldn’t be where i am today. He has put some amazing people in my life that have been a huge part of this journey. A few fellow friends/artists that have been a huge part of my life from my past and have continued into my present day are as follows. “Tai the 13th” (producer/artist/engineer) has been apart of my journey for over a decade and we are currently working on a project together as we speak. His unique and intricate production sound and rare MC and storytelling ability, set him apart from most other artists/producers. Next is “FULLNAMECOLA” out of the Bay Area. Not only is he an established hip hop artist and producer, but he is the owner of the emerging brand “Good Cult” that is sweeping through the streets of California right now. His canny ability to combine music, film, and culture as a method of marketing for his brand/movement is brilliant. Last but not least, I want to shout out my boy “OneWayNick” out of Sacramento. He is probably one of the hottest emerging artists out of that area and is a name that you will hear more and more about in the upcoming year. His rhythmic melodies and his ability to deliver impactful and vivid messages make his music almost impossible not to like.
