We had the good fortune of connecting with Pernell Langhorne III and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pernell, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from Surry County, Virginia. I grew up on a small farm in the country with a loving family of hardworking entrepreneurs. That upbringing impacted who I am today because it taught me the power of believing in myself, my crafts, and my compassion.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is all about limitless creation. It’s about reminding people of their power and that we can all go past the horizons set for us by society. I’m most excited about how much I continue to learn about myself through my art.

I got to where I am today by taking risks! I moved to Los Angeles without ever visiting California because I knew it would be the first great step into my divine adventure. A leap of faith is all it takes to set the gears in motion.

It wasn’t easy but I overcame the challenges by putting myself out there. I talk to everyone I see and that alone has opened up a multitude of doors and opportunities!

A lesson that I have learned along the way is to be what I want to see. If I want to see peace within the world then I must be that peace first.

Another lesson that I have learned is that you never know what someone else is going through so assumptions do not serve anyone. Treating others with respect and kindness leads to a healthier experience of life.

I want the world to know that we are all capable of creating beauty if we only recognize the beauty within our hearts and the natural world around us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Disneyland. There’s something special about Walt Disney’s first theme park because it was the only Disney park he ever set foot in. You can feel the richness of creativity and history around every corner!

For food, I would take them to In-N-Out. There’s nothing like a classic burger joint with consistently fresh food!

I would also take them to Tatsu Ramen. Their broth is out of this world and it’s still the best ramen I’ve ever had.

Another hangout spot would be Malibu. The gorgeous ocean, seaside houses, and marine life provide the ultimate California beach vibes.

Hollywood Boulevard has to be seen at least once! It’s fun to see the sights along the Walk of Fame for the first time and get a traditional LA experience.

Next, I would love to take them to the New Beverly Cinema! It’s the best spot to watch movies and is one of the oldest revival houses in the region.

Lastly, I’d take them to Eaton Canyon in Pasadena. There’s a stunning waterfall at the end of the hike and it gives a different perspective of the area that’s not just city life. Taking in the nature and wildlife really calibrates the senses!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my parents for being wonderful examples of unconditional love and perseverance!

I would also like to shoutout director Robert Rodriguez for inspiring me since I was a little kid. No matter what he makes, fun and imagination are at the center of it all!
