We had the good fortune of connecting with Peter G and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Peter G, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking doesn’t feel as bad when you truly believe in what you’re doing. I think that everybody has the thought of wanting to be a rock star or famous in some form or fashion, however for the many it just remains a thought because if it were easy everybody would be doing it. Many start, but few finish. It is a very tough road and very risky. You have to be good with yourself when the world is quick to judge you and most the time never really gives you the chance. Now more than ever almost anybody can make a video or go live on any given platform and some are organically decent right out of the gate, but how long can they go for before running out of gas is the question? Do you have it in you to go the distance no matter what? That’s where the risk comes in. To give up what most won’t in order to be what most aren’t. I have always since childhood been entertainment minded, mostly musical. Through my life growing up I would rather be broke and trying, then have money being normal and never knowing on what might have been. I have always been a dreamer, but at the same time I was pretty self aware that I had enough talent and determination to be in the entertainment industry. It’s who I am and who I have always been. I have sacrificed a lot in my life to go down the path I chose, but that’s me I and I have always felt this way. So when you naturally feel that way the risk doesn’t seem that risky to you, it’s just par for the course. Make no mistake though, the phrase One In A Million came from lots of winners and losers experience, but somebodies got to do it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
First of all I think that music and entertainment is so inspiring to so many as well as myself. Thousands of people attend concerts to see a handful of people perform on stage. I remember as a kid standing in the New Orleans Super Dome with 100 thousand people screaming and lighting the place up to Van Halen, 4 guys on stage. I was looking around and just thinking wow, how powerful is this. I had all ready known that that’s where I wanted to be because I wanted to bring some type of happiness to people and that’s the way I knew how to do it, thru music. I have to admit for the most part of my life I was pretty happy, even thru the highs and lows of my music endeavors. I definitely didn’t consider myself rich to todays standards, but I was happy because I loved being a musician. Had it not been for my divorce in 2009 thru 2012 which stopped my life dead in its tracks, There would be no Peter G Show. I had to battle for the 50/50 custody of our young daughter at the time and for me to go thru several years of court battles to retain my 50/50 and then take off and go touring, which nowadays is the only way to make a living in music. It would have made no sense because I would have lost everything I went thru for nothing. So that divorce and all the agony that came with it is how eventually The Peter G Show came into creation, But make no mistake it was just like starting completely over again. I started from zero except I wasn’t 25 anymore and a whole lot more life in my life, including a little girl that adored. So here’s where the lesson kicks in. I found out while going thru my own personal pain, I started talking to others who were going thru their own struggles. It then hit me that I was going to start a talk show that shares stories in order for people to understand that you’re not alone. We are going to talk about life, Both the good and the bad, but talking about things and getting it out there for others to hear. It ends up being a really good thing because most people just get wrapped up in their own struggles and think it’s just them. We all need to hear each other and care about each other. This was going to be the new way of me being able to do some good. Doing music is great and I hope to bring some of that back into the show someday, but letting people be heard and hoping to reach those who don’t know how to ask for help so at least they’ll know that it’s not just them with whatever issues they might be having. That’s where Life With Peter G, The Peter G Show took flight and became a reality and I’m pretty proud of that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite places for dinner in Hollywood is Yamashiro. It’s near the Hollywood Bowl and sits up hi above the Magic Castle with an amazing view overlooking Hollywood, Especially at night. I dig the vibe there and it sits right on the edge of Hollywood so you don’t have to travel into the thick of things. Most people that come to visit me are not from California and definitely have never been to Hollywood. Back in the day I used to run the streets of Hollywood and the valley on any given night or day, but nowadays I tend to get further away. I hate to say I’ve been there, but I’ve been there done that. If I have company and they really want to see certain things of Hollywood I will go do them, but otherwise I tend to head a bit more north towards Santa Barbara and be more coastal. I never get any complains doing that either. You can never go wrong hanging out on some coastal location for food and drinks. The one thing about being in the LA area is there are a ton of things always happening here. From a Dodger game or whatever sports season it is, we have a team for every sport. Concerts are everywhere from theaters to free concerts in the park, they are all fun. Places to hang in a 100 mile radius of LA is limitless and too many to name. That’s what makes LA.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
OMG, there are so many people through my life that have helped me along the way. So many. You have to remember that I started out as a musician/drummer since early childhood which then evolved into a career which led me to Hollywood and grew from there even more, however there were so many people as I was coming up as a teenage musician who believed in me and helping me out on everything from loaning me bigger and better PA sound systems on gigs for free, to recording studio time where I really developed even more skills as a drummer and the production aspect of recording records. We are talking decades of help from amazing people and friends along the way that truly wanted to see me thrive. Not to mention my biggest supporters, my parents who came from a generation where you learned a trade to work and have stability and never really understood why I would want to put myself through all the ups and downs of the entertainment business but yet they let me do what I had set my sights on from a young age and didn’t try to discourage me even though I knew at times deep down they probably would have preferred I became a doctor or something more safe and normal. Now when I shifted gears and went from a drum throne to a show host chair a few years ago, I started with a very small handful of supporters in my corner. This was all a new idea and believe it or not a lot of people thought I was crazy. Why would I want to shift gears and change horses in the middle of the stream? I didn’t have a whole lot of support, and I definitely didn’t have a whole lot of money to do the show with. So naming a few names on how The Peter G Show Got Started is easy. It took me over a year to find someone to help produce the show and edit locally for next to nothing so I could have a go to guy to work with in person. By fluke a musician friend led me to my producer and editor Tyler Purcell. He’s actually a cinematographer, but he has many skills and a kind heart and was willing to help get me off the ground. I had and still do have Pepsi and Marvin Morris AKA Big Money Marv, but but these guys had cashed out of LA and although were available to help me on some things, but they weren’t available for the actual filming of the show or the day to day hands on, everything with them was via nightly phone calls. That’s where Ty came in. He helped my turn my ideas good or bad into reality. Eventually I got Pepsi to move back and Big Money Marv is still a solid part of the stability of the show and pretty much takes care of and fixes things that sometimes are out of our pay grade. A gate keeper of sorts. We also picked up in the last 2 years the shows own stage mother and personal doctor who highly criticizes me from what tie I have on to the words that come out of my mouth at times. It’s sometimes a battle with her, but always good to have an objective opinion. It’s a good balance, plus Dr. Aparna holds several behind the scene titles on the show as well. We all wear many hats around here, and it works.
So really for the Peter G Show the list of shouts out at this point is considerably smaller than the list as I grew as a musician, but the show is still growing as well. All these people that have been in my life are all the people who helped me become me through time. I am not super religious however I do say prayers and in my nightly prayers I Thank God for all the people in my life both past and present for being there for me and believing in me. I think the greatest payback I could give is being successful and doing some good with my success.
I am incredibly thankful and grateful for all the people in my life.
