We had the good fortune of connecting with petria seymour and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi petria, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Most 2D animators have sore hands! We still draw at least twelve drawings per second, even when using computers. But we love drawing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Storytelling through animation is endlessly exciting and surprising, because it’s a collaboration. Our work looks punky and anarchic but it’s created with a lot of military style planning.
It’s magic to think that today, a lot of strangers will be watching and laughing at hilarious animation that I have help make.
Sounds corny but, the best thing about being a producer is that I get to develop talent and see artists grow and thrive.
When I started out animation was a male dominated industry. Men told me to my face that women didn’t have the ability to be animators. Sexism has been the biggest challenge, but at last men seem to catching up to the fact that women are sentastional.
Availability. Affability. Ability. We’re an animation supergroup producing entertaining, innovative, high impact work from script to screen. We produce a dynamic range of excellent work on time and within budget.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Have your morning start with a hike or swim at Will Rogers State Park or Will Rogers Beach. Spend your afternoon shopping at Santee Alley, then in the evening dance your ass off at The Troubadour.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mike Judge is my Shoutout. Mike gave me the job of Animation Producer and Production Designer on his hilarious Mike Judge Presents: Tales from the Tour Bus. I learned an enormous amount about every aspect of animation, he’s a very funny and kind genius.
I also really love all the immensely talented people that I work with.
