We had the good fortune of connecting with Pherran B and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pherran, what role has risk played in your life or career?
People often avoid taking risks because of the possible negative outcome that may occur. I’ve personally been one of those people in the past. I grew to learn that when it comes to achieving something, especially career wise, risk taking may be the best possible thing you can do for yourself. I was working as a banker, making more money than I ever had in my adult life, but I hated my job. All I could think about everyday was how I couldn’t wait to get the chance to work for myself. I decided to take that risk and follow my dreams of entrepreneurship, and it has been the best decision I’ve made thus far.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I treat my videos as my canvas. I’m always excited to bring new elements and colors into my creations. I always want to get better. I’m sort of obsessed with it. My goal every year is to make sure my art is not only improving from the previous year, but also becoming more original and diverse. A lot of people create videos, and I’m trying to be different from all of them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Compton has plenty of hidden gems, but if you had to make one stop in the city, I would recommend Creole Taffy’s Cajun Crawfish Fettuccini. You gotta call and place a special order but I PROMISE YOU, its worth every penny.Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is no way I would have been able to successfully turn my passion into a career without the support of my family. Coming from previous generations whose mindset was always, “Get a good job and work it as long as you can.” It was hard for them to fathom that I wanted to quit my job and focus on my own business at 27. Still living at home during that time was a blessing, They allowed me to continue staying with them as I went through the ups and downs of starting your own business, and figuring out how to make the income more consistent. I’ll forever be grateful for them allowing me to spread my wings as far as I dreamed to.
