Meet Phyllis Douglass | Musician, Artist, Healer, Spiritual Consultant, Yoga Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Phyllis Douglass and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phyllis, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
To never allow fear to become a barrier. Instead, I have always allowed fear to serve as a catalyst for me to move forward to greater things. By changing my mindset, to the understanding that what I’m defining as fear, is really just excitement for the unknowns the future holds. The future only exists as unlimited possibility, so we really only have the present moment, to make choices that reflect the desires of our future self. All time is now.
I practice discernment of self. The past doesn’t belong in the present. If I find myself falling back into old patterns, behaviors or out-dated beliefs, I take a step to the side and check it at the door. Then I move on.
To be unapologetically authentic. No matter what.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I chose the category of Artist and Creative, not only because I create Alchemy Music and Sacred Artifacts which are tools for spiritual healing, meditation, and ritual. I chose it more so, because of my training and practice within the tradition of Toltec Shamanism. The key element, is to live life as a work of art. As the creator of my own life from the perspective of art, I am able to see things from a higher perspective. And see the beauty and purpose in each experience.
Everything that happens has a learning behind it that further motivates us to create the next experience.
The most difficult thing for me, was coming out of the closet so to speak, as a Spiritual Healer, Medium, Seer, Channel, Alchemist–all around weird person. I’ve been surrounded by Angels since I was a little girl, and they have served as friends, confidants, teachers, guides and protectors. And I loved the movie “Sixth Sense”, because people who had passed over, would frequent my bedroom as a child. As an adult, their timing is much more respectful. I never spoke about any of it growing up, as I didn’t realize I was different from other people in our then, relatively small town in the Midwest. Fast forward to the realization that you incarnate into this life with specific gifts for a reason. You are meant to use them. The Angels guided me in the direction of things that would help me discover the truth of who I am, and deeply connect with my spiritual nature. And when I took a wrong turn, obstacles appeared in my way that made me turn in a new direction. In hindsight, it was probably like herding a cat.
When bad things happened, they were there to make sure I had the afforded experience, but that it didn’t go so far as to harm me. That may sound like an odd statement, but after puberty, I had several experiences with negative entities that could have been taken right out of a Paranormal movie. I eventually asked the Angels why these things were allowed to happen, and they told me that knowledge is the key to successfully assisting others. Experiences are not tangible or believed by many, until it’s actually personally experienced, versus sitting in a movie theatre and being entertained while eating popcorn. Being yanked out of bed by a nonphysical entity, and fighting them off in the dreaming, is not for the feint of heart. The truth is though, that it never negatively phased me. There was a deeper and yet undiscovered part of me, that was quite aware, ready and able. That part of me always awakened at the right moments.
I was always quiet and secretive about my gifts, as they bucked the norm of my religious upbringing. However, the more I tried to quote, be someone else or be who others wanted me to be, the reminders of who I really am were amplified beyond measure. The Universe, God, the Angels, or whatever you may consider a Higher Power, had a way of bringing the obvious back around, no matter which way I turned. Eventually, I kind of gave up and gave in. That is when I began the path of a spiritual seeker, to learn more about how to further access and use my gifts. I have had wonderful teachers over the years, sharing their methodologies and wisdom.
I became who I am today, by acknowledging that I am my own person, and that no one can do what I do in the way that I do it. I tried the cookie cutter method many times, but it’s difficult if not impossible, to be successful if you are only attempting to mimic what others are doing. You lose yourself. You lose your joy. And you diminish your spirit. I had the realization that life was in flow when I was being authentic to myself. When I wasn’t, I would get stuck and hit seemingly impenetrable walls. I believe that authenticity is the key to success.
When I allowed my own gifts, inspirations, and desires to evolve, and permeate my life, that is when everything as I knew it began to fall away. As everything no longer in resonance from the past was shed, it revealed a more confident–and yes, authentic–version of me. The authentic version of me, had to weather the storm of change as friends and clients disappeared, and people surrounding me at the time, became disenchanted with who I was becoming and made their concerns known. I began to realize that it was only because I would no longer be serving them in the way they themselves desired, and that many had been attempting to groom me as such. Also, many people fear change, and will do almost anything to stop it if they can. Including making an attempt to diminish your ideas and choices, to keep you small and right where they want you.
We aren’t here for anyone else. We are here to experience a physical life, within the precious and beautiful physical bodies we’ve been given. Our first experience is birth. Or last experience is death. What we choose to do in the dash between the day we are born and the day we die, is on us.
So I choose to create life as a work of art. I choose to be deeply entertained by each new experience, learn something about myself, and discover every nuance that can then carry me into the next opportunity to experience something new. And I choose to share what I know with others to assist them along their own personal journey. As a Healer, I recognize that I am not healing anyone. I am facilitating an opportunity and creating space or any access point, for people to heal themselves. And to empower people to recognize the true power and magnificence which resides within them.
I’ve come to understand and fully acknowledge, that when you are capable of creating sacred space for others in a way that’s aligned and punctuated by your gifts, miracles, change, shifts and transformation happens. You can’t do that if you are trying to be like someone else. And you can’t do that if you are trying to be the person someone else wishes you to be. You can only do it if you are being true to you.
Needless to say, that which disappeared from my life, was replaced by bigger and better opportunities, a different and aligned circle of friends and colleagues, and joy.
I learned that the only barriers we encounter are those created within our own minds.
My spiritual given name is, Vox Angelus, the “Voice of the Angel”. When people come to me, I always lead with my true and authentic self. My work is guided by my commitment to working with the Elohim, which is in essence, how I communicate with God. I am a direct conduit for the consciousness of the Elohim, which is a group including the Archangels and Angels, as Messengers of God. My voice is an instrument for Alchemical Transmissions and Alchemy Music, encoded with prescriptive Angelic frequencies, energy and Light. I sing and speak what the Angels refer to as, the Language of God’s Light. When I work, people feel the presence of the Angels within the space, and have transformative and healing experiences. No one experience is ever the same, but it is about healing, creating space to allow change, and becoming more of who you are meant to be.
And it is about acknowledging your own divinity, and that you are the creator of your own life.
That is my path as a Spiritual Healer, Vocalist, Sound Therapist, Recording Artist, Teacher, Speaker and Cultivator of a new way of being in the world. To be a way-shower and reflection of higher truth, so that others may find their own true path and purpose.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love nature, and we have a wide diversity in our area with the beaches and the mountains. There is something for everyone. I would definitely take them to the beach, to walk along the pier, and strolling, shopping and eating along the Santa Monica Promenade. And I love hiking through Griffith Park, and visiting the Observatory. I would also take them to a couple of our wonderful museums, like the La Brea Tarpits which is a favorite. I also love to visit the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, and the California African American Museum. There is so much historical wealth in our area that we don’t always see and acknowledge.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My longtime teacher and mentor, Koyote the Blind of Xicoco Shamanic Arts. He served as a quintessential guide in understanding my spiritual gifts and the power I hold, to make a difference in the world through service to others. He allowed me to see that when we apply focus and attention on our gifts, those gifts will then carry us forward into a life we enjoy living. I am happily and successfully living the life of an entrepreneur within the field of spiritual healing, mysticism and magic. Without his knowledge, wisdom and direction, I would not be who I’ve become, and would be working what most would consider a normal occupation, and hating it.
