We had the good fortune of connecting with Pierre & Alexis Mr. & Mr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pierre & Alexis, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“Sentimental objects for everyday living” , this quote mean our footprint on our creations. It is for us, the additional value on our objects. From either, orders or self productions our process of creating signifies a radical departure from usual routines. Combining craftsmanship and the transformation of materials and uses. Our objects comprises an blend of hybrid design that works outside of the confines imposed by the notion of innovation. Indeed, all of these facets of our work contribute to create a unique artistic sensibility. As well, due to the choice of materials used, the finishing work carried out and the usage of the finished items themselves, the fabrication processes employed frequently leave aesthetic or familiar markings on the objects produced. Our form of designing objects have such many stories to tell. These stories are always waxing lyrical about the functionalities of the objects and conjures up imagery that maintains links with our daily needs and create a strong sentimental attachment.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since our beginnings, we works on creating objects, furnitures or spaces with the same commitment. We love conceptualizing our productions in an mix & match of images, thought feelings and materials. Each of our projects have the same way of being realized. We do not make any difference between sizes or budgets projects, always adapting our process to the being purpose. This way, the freedom of creation does not change. The differences are the productions purposes.
In the making of design objects, from either an order or a self-publishing, in single exemple or a small quantities, we always thinks the production in series. On the opposite way, our point of view on architecture is specific. We are drawing houses that perfectly fit there owners’s habit. The plans are tailored made for the people living in, as we are adding to it, an very personal dimensions made out of an back and forth stories from the owner’s, which are always gives an unexpected reality to the project. In an other perspective, we are also designing art exhibitions. As scenographer, The main matter is to create an emotional balance between artwork, visitor ans space. In this case, not creating into a long term, it’s liberating. As the art contemporary exhibition are ofently exploring socials engagements, we design spaces and theirs meaning. Since we been playing with these, most of our realized is to deconstructing the concept of white cube and letting the material seen without travesty. Surprisingly, it’s a parallel, that you can feel trough all our works.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We live between two cities, Montpellier and Sète they are both situated in the Occitanie district, south of France. This area, have so many great places around to discover. To show friends the best spots, we will starts by bringing them to the C.R.A.C and Mo.Co museum for contemporary art shows. Following, we will go lunch at midi-là-haut, an extraordinary restaurant situated on the Mont Saint Clair with great food and great view of Sète. We will step by the naked beach of les Aresquiers, enjoying all day the sun and the sea. We will take time to visit other cities near like Marseille, Arles while stepping by the camargues area were things are wild and nature totally preserved. Inevitably, we will go on Sunday morning to the fleat market and right after, going to drinks Pastis at the ” le Carafon de Manon” bar near by. And finally, we will ended up at the old city center market call “les Halles”, with win and oysters from the area… Mainly, we will presenting our guests with all our friends and that will be the best time of their travel !
