We had the good fortune of connecting with Pooja Photography and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pooja, what do you attribute your success to?
When I started my journey there were too many uncertainties. Every session was a new learning experience and I probably made every mistake in the business rule book. As one grows with business, with experience came new rules , new work policies and new mistakes to be made. Success is a big word. Has a lot of definitions. There is never just one thing that makes you succeed. It’s always a mix of few things. I knew there was one thing me as a brand always wanted … never to become the rusty artist! The most important factor that has helped me succeed as a brand is not keeping myself bound to a box. To find success in art is to find creativity everyday. It is to let your mind soar and make something new every single time esp when your next project is similar to the one before. The key is to treat every session as an opportunity to not only reflect the client’s essence but to also add your flavor of art to it. Take the time out to listen, plan and then think outside the box. Know your client’s story and add their essence to their portraits. You can bring art to everything from headshots to newborn portraits. Success is not bound of staying within the walls… it is about leaving your soul open to learn more, add more and continuously grow.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I love to work outside the box, break some composition rules, capture the essence instead of staying safe. I love my artist life… and I live a little.
My previous IT life involved hiding behind my computer, and my art was my lines of code, thinking how I can beautify the workflow.
Now I beautify lives!! I help people hold on to the moments. I help them pick what matters the most to them and what they relate to. It is their story that I help preserve, their career I help push forward.
An artist’s journey comes with all possible hiccups.. but I know every morning I wake up, I am excited to create something new, to make new friends and my favorite part of all…. to see strangers walk into a session and lifelong friends leave from there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friends are as crazy as I am , I would totally hit the gorgeous National Parks of California. Lassen National park is my most favorite because of the varied landscapes you enjoy. From Sulfur mudpies, to gorgeous waterfalls, from rocky lava beds to blooming hikes along the foothills of Mt Lassen. You have it all there. And if you are up for it, camp instead of staying in a hotel. Watching the Milky way at the Bump pass hell is like a dream. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is no I in the team… and there wouldn’t be any Pooja Photography if it wasn’t for the constant support of my family. There is always someone who picks up the slack when my day is swamped. My hubby who takes up all the tasks that I might have dropped because my job needed it that day, my sister who proof reads for me, my daughter who is my muse and my critic, my son who is my muscle man and my parents who always support me in every way possible!!
