We had the good fortune of connecting with Poorva Wachh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Poorva, how do you think about risk?
Life, in my perspective, is an intricate tapestry of challenges and risks, and my journey in the acting realm epitomizes this philosophy. Every project, whether it’s preparing for a multitude of characters in films or taking on lead roles in feature films, web series, or high-profile commercials like the Toyota Prius commercial, has been a profound challenge, each contributing to my growth as an actor.

One of the most exhilarating endeavors this year is stepping back into the shoes of the lead character for the second part of “The Big Rant.” Despite receiving accolades and two Best Actor awards for the first installment, this sequel represents an entirely new challenge. While I don’t adhere strictly to method acting, I relish immersing myself in the private lives of the characters, leveraging my imagination to unveil unexplored facets.

Amidst the unpredictable nature of the industry, setbacks such as the SAG strike causing delays in ongoing film projects serve as poignant reminders of the resilience required in this field. It’s a testament to the importance of perseverance, even in the face of uncertainties regarding when we’ll be able to resume filming.

Looking forward, the prospect of playing a diverse range of characters in upcoming projects fills me with anticipation. With multiple films and shows in the pipeline, I am enthusiastic about embracing new challenges, especially the opportunity to execute my own stunts. As a trained stunt actor and martial artist, the prospect of infusing authenticity into my performances by executing kicks jumps, falls, and climbs on my own is not only a testament to my dedication but also a thrilling way to push the boundaries of what I can achieve as an actor. It’s a commitment to continuous growth and an affirmation of my passion for the craft.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is my unwavering determination and refusal to give up. I make a conscious effort to push myself to the limits and give 110% in every character or film I take on. This dedication is crucial to me, as maintaining a balance is key.

Mental strength is an aspect of my life that I prioritize. I engage in practices such as yoga and meditation, and I immerse myself in spiritual and self-help literature. This commitment to mental well-being is not just a personal choice but a strategic one, recognizing that a healthy mind positively influences my work life. I firmly believe that maintaining this balance is essential because, without mental stability, the challenges that arise, like the recent SAG strike, can become overwhelming. In times like these, my focus on mental health becomes paramount, ensuring that I navigate through the toughest situations with resilience and stability.

I take immense pride in reflecting on my journey thus far, particularly the films I’ve been a part of and the success I’ve garnered in the entertainment industry. The recognition I’ve received, especially for “The Big Rant,” a feature film currently streaming on Amazon Prime, has been instrumental in opening doors for me. It served as a significant stepping stone into the industry, granting me opportunities to connect with influential figures in the entertainment business.

While the path hasn’t been without its challenges, each setback has been a lesson and a chance to meet new people, broadening my network and providing fresh opportunities. Working on “The Bold and the Beautiful” was a recent highlight, offering a remarkable experience on set and valuable learning opportunities. It’s a testament to the diverse and talented individuals I’ve had the privilege to collaborate with.

Looking ahead, I’m excited about the multitude of projects that await me. Multiple films and web series are in the pipeline, each presenting a new and exciting challenge. The anticipation of shooting “The Big Rant Part 2” and engaging in other projects fuels my enthusiasm for what lies ahead in my evolving journey in the industry. The continuous flow of opportunities reinforces my belief that there’s much more to explore and achieve, and I’m eager to embrace the future projects that await me.

Navigating the entertainment industry has been a mix of both ease and challenge for me. Initially, I count myself fortunate to have landed roles early in my career through auditions. It’s a stroke of luck that I’m deeply grateful for, recognizing that not everyone experiences such early success.

However, the journey hasn’t been without its hurdles, particularly in the face of external challenges like the pandemic and SAG and Writer’s strikes. The inability to audition during these periods posed its own set of difficulties, adding an unpredictable layer to an already dynamic field.

One specific challenge I encountered involved a character that required me to grow a beard and put on weight. The ongoing strike presented a unique obstacle as I couldn’t alter my appearance, creating a unique set of constraints. It underscores the unpredictable nature of the entertainment business, where external factors often dictate the trajectory of projects and personal commitments.

Being in the entertainment industry, especially as an actor, demands versatility. We’re not just confined to our roles; we’re immersed in every facet of the industry. While this diversity offers rich experiences, it also presents its own set of challenges. Whether it’s adapting to industry shifts, facing limitations during strikes, or maintaining physical attributes for a role, each challenge is an opportunity for growth and adaptation in this multifaceted profession.

In the face of challenges, I firmly believe that giving up is never the solution. Instead, the key lies in finding viable solutions to the problems at hand. It’s about persistently grinding, continuously working and refusing to succumb to setbacks. Even during downtime or periods of adversity, I view them as opportunities to enhance and refine myself.

I take advantage of these moments to delve into aspects of self-improvement, honing skills that I’ve always aspired to master. As an actor, the pursuit of becoming a versatile and natural expert in various skills brings me immense joy and motivation. It’s this passion that propels me forward and encourages me to seek alternative paths when faced with challenges.

Maintaining a positive outlook, focusing on the bright side, and making the most of every situation is crucial. By doing so, I not only overcome hurdles but also capitalize on the downtime to emerge stronger, more skilled, and better equipped for the journey ahead. It’s a mindset that fuels my determination and allows me to find fulfillment and progress in every situation.

One of the key lessons I’ve gathered along my journey is the recognition that life is inherently unpredictable. There are times when we may believe we have everything figured out, expecting perfection, only to be reminded that challenges and mistakes are inevitable. Embracing these unforeseen turns and learning from our mistakes is a fundamental aspect of growth.

I view mistakes not as setbacks but as invaluable opportunities to acquire new insights and knowledge. It’s through facing challenges and acknowledging missteps that I’ve been able to truly comprehend the dynamics of success. The interplay between failure and success has become a guiding principle in my life, prompting constant introspection and a commitment to continuous improvement.

As an actor, this philosophy extends to my craft. I’m continually exploring how I can approach characters differently, injecting fresh perspectives and nuances that contribute to the richness of the script and the depth of the character. This involves questioning what I can bring to the table that hasn’t been explored before, ensuring that I approach my work with a serious and dedicated mindset. It’s about embracing different perspectives, pushing boundaries, and contributing as much as possible to every project.

I believe it’s crucial for everyone, regardless of their field, to recognize that no one knows everything or is right all the time. This principle extends beyond acting—it’s a life philosophy. Embracing the possibility of not knowing opens doors to new opportunities and unexplored realms. Saying “I don’t know” is not a limitation; rather, it’s an invitation to learn and grow.

I learned early on that closing oneself off with a mindset of knowing everything limits the potential for discovery. Being open to continuous exploration and learning is a powerful mindset. Life is a perpetual journey of learning, and I see myself as a lifelong student. The more we learn, the more we can contribute and give to others.

If people can remember these two fundamental ideas—to keep exploring and learning while acknowledging that no one has all the answers—I believe it can pave the way for personal growth and a more enriching life. This philosophy has brought me fulfillment, and my hope is that it resonates with others as well.
