We had the good fortune of connecting with Pranav Mehta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pranav, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Mainly because the arts drew me towards it. I come from a very normal middle class indian household where my entire family has comprised of businessmen crunching numbers all day. It was decided pretty early on in my life that one day I would join that business or at-least be a part of that business in some or the other way. Destiny however had other plans, where I got drawn towards cameras and photographs at an early age even though that was not something that I was thinking about. I wanted to become a writer early on in my life and was pretty passionate about it at one point but didn’t work out. My love for cameras and photographs found me again at a later stage during my life when I was studying journalism in Mumbai,India. I have not looked back since, currently I’m a working photographer in Los Angeles. I came here two years ago for my masters degree and I have since met some of the most remarkable and brilliant minds in the industry, their guidance and the knowledge I have gained from them is something that I believe will eventually carry me towards my goals!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a photographer, specialising in Fashion and Portraits. I came to Los Angeles two years ago, and what I’m most proud of is the progress I’ve made, because only I know how far I’ve come. In terms of how I got to where I am today professionally, I would have to say by failing. Failure has taught me things that no other person could teach me. I’ve stumbled, faltered, failed on multiple occasions and I’ve always felt a little discouraged by it. My mum used to tell me, if something didn’t work out for you, it was probably because something better was on the way. Even though Its not been easy, nothing worthwhile is but what I’ve learned is to look at the positive sides of every failure and disappointment that comes your way, it calms you down and prepares/motivates you for the better things that are yet to come, failure teaches you to become stronger and it teaches you to respect life and yourself.
