We had the good fortune of connecting with Preston Corbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Preston, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Get up, gather yourself and do it again” I think this is important as a stuntman and it was told to me by a coordinator. We will get hurt and it can be a scary thing. It’s important to quickly evaluate the injury and decide if you can go again. This saying helped me find that mental toughness and know it’s ok I’ve got this.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started in the film industry as a teenager, it was fun and exciting. I grew into doing stunts and double work as a career and paid my dues along the way. I set myself apart from the field because I can transform into so many distinct roles. I have the discipline to obtain certain body types and as an actor I can get into method acting for a certain role. My ability to adapt to a role quickly has always set me apart. It has not been easy physically and mentally, overcoming injuries and developing mental strength. I am constantly overcoming adversity such as pain and working through it. Fear is always a factor and finding that peace in your mind, where it is not about fear and anxiety is about producing art and not getting hurt.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA is always full of excitement and fun, especially for someone visiting. I would take them to the local spots I like that are not always the tourist hot spots. I am from Newport Beach so I would head down south to Orange County and go to the beach. I use to play basketball as a kid in Laguna Beach. There is a court right off the ocean, now it is a hot spot but when I grew up it was a low-key place where pro ballers would pull up for pickup games.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My story has had its difficulties. I have seen a lot of success because of my hard work. I would be lying if I said it was easy to stay stable and on the path. The inspiration and support along my journey comes from my family. I have struggled along the way and my family has been that stable rock by my side. I definitely couldn’t have reached the level of success I have today without the love and support of my family.
