We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscila Lima and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Priscila, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career because it was something I’ve always felt passionate about. Growing up all my mind ever did was wander off to what I wanted to design next. Whether it be a sketch or a sculpture, I knew it was one of the only things I wanted to do in this lifetime. Even when I’d try to switch my focus to other professions, I just always naturally gravitated towards the notion of creating.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a mixed media artist I find experimenting with different mediums to be challenging yet fulfilling. I decide whether the story I want to tell will be airbrushed on a shirt or set up to look like simple home decor or accessory. When I create, my main objective is always to design a piece that carries meaning and multifunctionality. It can be wearable art or a decorative wall clock that expresses a feeling. To speak through my work in as many ways as I could without saying a word.
It has always been a challenge to put myself out there and be open to the possibility of absolutely anything happening. The fear of both failing and succeeding is a nonstop battle between the mind and heart. I consider myself lucky to be where I am currently because of the support of my small circle and the feeling of expressing myself the only way I know how. I create for myself but the support I have only encourages me to keep going. If not for myself than for my future and the people I’d like to keep in it and meet along the way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting the city I would probably first take them to one of my favorite breakfast spots, Cafe los Feliz. Possibly roam around for a bit there, then go to Highland Park and show them around all the old spots. I think it would be a good time to spend most of the afternoon if not evening there. Visit some of my other closest friends and just hangout.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout a small group of people that I would call my support system. Both friends and few members of my family. I would definitely not be able to do this on my own let alone without their ongoing love and support. Living in times like these isn’t easy and pursuing a career in the creative field doesn’t make it any easier. I’d say I put in as much effort as I could to do things on my own but my friends, my sister and my cousin definitely held the door open for me more times than I could count and for that I am forever grateful.
