Meet Querube Galaz | Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Querube Galaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Querube, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
First, thank you so much for the opportunity to share my story. I grew up in a Spanish-speaking country and moved to the United States as a fifteen-year-old. Before relocating, I taught myself enough English to quickly navigate through a mandatory ESL course that my high school offered. Being proficient in two languages didn’t seem particularly significant then. However, bilingualism opened many professional doors. It allowed me to intern at the Panama Canal and later manage an international operation as a business professional.
Spanish Town USA, established in July of 2023, was born out of necessity. Before its creation, I enjoyed a successful corporate career. Tangentially, I was searching for a fun, creative, effective and safe place for my son to learn Spanish. No business in my area offered this, but I was inspired by the model of the Korean weekend programs. I wanted to create something similar for my son. I wanted him to understand part of my heritage through language, to be able travel around Spanish-speaking countries and explore other cultures without language constraints, and to subsequently enjoy the professional benefits of bilingualism.
I created what I envisioned would meet my own needs and those of other families near me. Spanish Town USA LLC began as a weekend project. Within a couple of months of its inauguration, our weekend clubhouse reached capacity. Today, we offer tutoring, camps and classes to kids of all ages and proficiency levels.
Having attended Middlebury College, one of the top liberal arts institutions in the nation for language acquisition, and having been a tutor for the No Child Left Behind Program and a professional mentor, trainer and coach for many years, has certainly shaped my approach to teaching. Additionally, because I possess a science background and operational knowledge, our curriculum is balanced and our progress is closely measured.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a results-oriented learning center. We are driven by the feedback we receive from customers and constantly motivated by the confidence that kids build as they progress through our sessions. I am a firm believer in the idea that you can’t fix what you can’t see. Across ambits, transparency leads to improvements through the quick identification, targeting and resolution of problems. We measure success, iterate and refine our process every day.
At Spanish Town USA, we teach primarily Spanish, but if you look close enough within our walls, you will find lots of science, as well as practical lessons in our curriculum. We learn Spanish through stories, songs, art, games, poetry, etc. We strive to be an institution that’s easy to do business with, ensuring a seamless experience for both students and their families. We understand that achieving Spanish literacy takes time and our goal is to ensure that participants enjoy the process. This commitment to both engagement and education sets us apart from other language learning centers.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s so much to do in LA and the surrounding areas! As a creature of habit, here are some of my favorite places and activities:
For an all-day experience on the west side, I’d recommend Universal Studios—an exciting, Hollywood-centric adventure that combines fun with plenty of walking. For a more relaxing day, head to Huntington Beach for brunch by the water at Dukes, followed by a scenic bike ride from there to Seal Beach. If you’re a fan of Spanish cuisine like I am, I suggest dining at Phlight in Whittier—a hidden gem known for its tapas and sangria. For dinner, Dal Rae in Pico Rivera is a must-visit, especially for their amazing seabass and banana flambe.
For a casual night out, I’d recommend The Standard in Downtown LA, where you can enjoy drinks on the rooftop with a great view. Since LA has such a rich Mexican cultural influence, a visit to Frida’s in Cerritos or Torrance for their buffet and mariachi music is also a must.
If you’re in the mood for a special performance, a show at the Walt Disney Concert Hall or the Hollywood Bowl is always a great choice. Both venues offer a unique experience with exceptional seating and acoustics.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to McMaster-Carr, a company that taught me so much of what I know today. I am inspired by institutions with a strong moral compass and McMaster-Carr does this well. Its leadership is talented and down to earth and has been a continued source of inspiration and mentorship for me. I would also like to thank my husband for his support as I embarked on this new endeavor with the hopes of not only pursuing a new passion but gaining the flexibility I needed to be there for our son.
