We had the good fortune of connecting with Queue and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Queue, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My idea about work-life balance changed considerably after living in New Zealand for five years. Before then, I didn’t even know what work-life balance was. I was sold out to the “grind and hustle” lifestyle. Always working. Always DOING something. And depressed when I wasn’t “busy.” It’s quite the vicious cycle. But island life showed me that working yourself round the clock isn’t necessary to achieve your goals. Rest and relaxation are just as important as discipline and dedication to work. You can’t produce your best output if you’re a walking zombie from malnourishment and lack of sleep. I have really struggled to achieve the same work-life balance in the U.S. that I developed in New Zealand. However, I am determined in 2024 to make it happen!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being an independent artist at this time is hard. It is TOUGH to cut through all the noise. I know my music is worthy. I just have to get it to folks’ ears. That’s my goal for this year: to get my music HEARD.

I have an album coming out, and I am VERY proud of the work. I can’t WAIT to share it. These songs deserve life, and I can’t wait until it’s finally out.

Music is heavy on the trends right now. And some of them are great. Many–are not. I have worked hard to stay true to sounds I love and let my creativity and honesty lead my music. I am not afraid to try new things or be vulnerable. I think that is missing in much of today’s music. The collective masses tend to vibe on toxicity or loathingness. That’s fine, but I want people to feel GOOD when they listen to my music. I want them to feel like they are renewed, like anything is possible.

I’ve learned that people respond most to the truth. I write from my life. I don’t try to conjure up what I think people will like. I feel something, and whatever comes out, that is what the people will hear. It’s all–me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely going to JOEY for dinner. DTLA or Manhattan Beach. They MUST have Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles – Gower or Inglewood locations only.
Pasadena Fish Market. Some of the BEST soul food you’ll find in LA.
My 2 Cents. It’s soul food but farm-to-table. SO GOOD. and HEALTHY. All the favorites reimagined with your health in mind.

We’d have to see a concert either at Staples Center (I refuse to call it whatever they want me to call it now lol) or Hollywood Bowl.

See an old, classic film at Hotel Roosevelt.

Gotta hit up the Funko Pop store in Hollywood and make a Funko of yourself.

If it’s their first time, Runyon Canyon and Santa Monica Pier are a must.

Most certainly will hit one of my favorite brunch spots: Pann’s. Met Her at a Bar.

We would HAVE to do deep and meaningful chats on Mulholland Drive.

My friends do a monthly drunken spelling be. Always a good time.

And any of the cool museums. LACMA, Grammy, MOCA. Take your pick!

That’s just a few quick ideas. ha!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh wow. I’m just going to list folks:

– Donovan, my fiance. Holds me DOWN. Supports me in all the ways imaginable. Couldn’t do life without him.

– Ashli, my best friend. She SEES me. We are like twins separated at birth. She always understands me. and knows how to conjure laughter just when I need it.

– CJ, my best friend since 1st grade. Some people in your life waver. CJ never has. I don’t believe we’ve ever had an argument. It’s always been deep conversation and hilarious vibes.

– My Bae, LiToya. Again, been cool since 6th grade. Never wavered. Always there for me.

– My crew: Kyle Jones, Carmen & Jamarr Johnson, Morgan. the brunches. the game nights. the encouragement. always on point.

– Some key faculty at Southwestern Law School. Prof. Isabelle Gunning, Dean Darby Dickerson, Prof. Cristina Knolton,

– My parents. They come in the clutch when I need them.

These folks keep me sane. Without them, I would have fallen off LONG AGO. I am so grateful for my village. I love all of yall!
