We had the good fortune of connecting with Quick Pup and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quick Pup, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
We believe every risk is work taking.

Quick Pup, let alone the music industry wouldn’t exist or be inspired without it.

As an independent band we book our own shows, run our own social media, record/produce all our music ourselves, make our own merch, the laundry list goes on. All this for the sake of art or performing shows, and even then there are still plenty more risk involved.

There have been many times where we haven’t been taken seriously, haven’t been paid, been harassed, but one thing that always makes those risks worthy is seeing our family, friends, and fans singing along to our music. Seeing the contagious happiness spread throughout the audience as we perform.

Risk makes our lives worth living.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets us apart musically from other groups is our collective influences that shape our music as a whole. Everyone has very diverse tastes, whether that be in our taste in music or other passions, but it all comes together when our band makes songs that we love to write and perform.

Apart from our guitarist Andrew, most of us are new to performing within the scene (one of us is a model and the other started in acting, and one is pursuing the legal sector) so starting this project was also throwing ourselves into the deep end of sharing our art, our stories, and ourselves with the world.

It’s definitely not easy starting or maintaining a band. There’s so much involved that people don’t consider when self-managing, and it can often feel like an uphill battle for us.

What makes it easier is knowing that we get to go through it with our best friends and share the responsibilities along with all of the fun that comes with being in a band. We’ve been learning a lot about ourselves and each other, like how to properly communicate and work through artistic differences. It’s difficult having four brains on one song, and a lot of it is compromise and trusting each other throughout the creative process. Every song we write together gets a little easier to write as we discover more about each others styles and form our own unique sound together.

We want the world to know that we’re ruff, tough, and we’ve got bark AND bite. This project has been a whirlwind of hard work, risk, and kinship- and we’re so excited for the next chapter of our band. We recently released our debut EP Quick Pup and are currently in the process of recording our next few singles and EPs! We’ve got a lot of music, shows, and surprises that are sure to make your tail wag with delight. Look out for Grinding Stone, Succubus, Porcelain Skin, and many more coming soon and be sure to stream us on Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud, and wherever else your ears can perk up to.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Anael: 4100 is great on a slow night for some pool and good cocktails, Sassafras Saloon for great shows (including ours!), Larchmont Village Wine and Cheese for the best fresh baguette sandwiches. There’s a great hike you can take up behind the Hollywood Sign that I love to go to at sunset (and you get the added perk of telling your friends you can see your house from there). Oh, and lately I’ve been unable to get Genghis Kohen’s pan fried noodles out of my mind!

Christine: The Los Feliz Theatre and all of the little shops and restaurants on Vermont there. The Vista too! Fred 62’s is our little post-show safe haven, Cherry Pick Vintage has amazing clothes, and Hotel Cafe is a great venue. Prince St. Pizza is another band favorite, we practically haunt the drive through in Hollywood. Shopping around Melrose is a must too!

Samira: The Rainbow Room and The Viper Room for shows, and La Rochelle Bakery and Cafe in North Hollywood for some of the best sandwiches in the city. The thrift stores in Downtown Burbank are great, the Catnip Coalition Vintage Mall is a super cool place with tons of local artists and vendors.

Andrew: (Very seriously said) Goldburger. Any location. Venice Beach Skate Park, and Griffith Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would love to shoutout our friends Snailmate. We played our first show ever with them, and they are such amazing musicians and people. They’ve taught us so much about what it means to be a great performer- and their merch table is seriously enviable!

They’ve been touring around the US and Brazil recently, and their music truly knows no bounds. They are an amazing, barrier breaking, powerhouse of a duo that we love and respect dearly.

If you haven’t seen them live yet, you’re going to want to! We play with them often at The Offbeat for their residency when they’re in town.

Check them out @snailmate on Instagram and catch their next LA show!
