We had the good fortune of connecting with Raheem Amir and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raheem, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My whole cooking journey so far has been full of risk. From Deciding not to pursue a Childhood dream of being an entertainer to developing and building a passion for something even bigger than I could ever imagine. The Risk of missing out on the things an young man looks forward to being apart of, from quitting jobs because I felt stuck and like I learned as much as I could. Being an entrepreneur comes with a list of risk some a learning experience and some extremely rewarding but, all definitely not understood. These very risk I speak of have gotten me where I am today, taking those chances on myself , believing in myself enough to know I deserved so much more. I went from people talking down on me for staying at jobs for months at a time because I felt stuck after reaching my learning capacity. Little did they know that these very jobs were learning steps needed to gauge own career. I’m well versed in the kitchen and I owe it to the risk that we’re taken along with the people who supported those risk, my family.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up I would of never considered what I do art but, time brings knowledge. I always wanted to be a singer/songwriter/actor I felt I was made for the screen but, minimal support can kill a dream fast. Then I began cooking and being introduced to complexity and layers of cooking to my imagination to another level. I grateful for my new passion of Art, it’s introduced me to so many aspects of life and people that I’ve even been blessed with the opportunities of pursuing the childhood dreams. Truly tapping into this industry hasn’t been easy at all but, following my dreams has opened doors for so many other dreams like PieOnTheFlyy and CookOrDieTryin. I’ve learned to step out and trust myself and don’t be complacent or scared of your purpose. I want the world to know everything you want is literally out there to grab and the years in between spent getting it are necessary. Embrace the journey, learn and Boss Up!!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely have to check out the food scenes me being who I am so, all the local food trucks, restaurants. Then the beaches are a must along with jet skis , parasailing in Newport Beach. Where ever your staying definitely have CookOrDieTryin, PieOnTheFlyy or SheCooks247 come by for catering.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow! I have so many people to be grateful for first is definitely my mom not only for birthing me but, for making the choice to keep me and taking the time to instill a faith so strong and genuine. Next is my sister who’s like a second mom. She always been my biggest supporter, protector and moral compass. Being an adolescent amongst your peers parents don’t realize the pressures from fitting in, to emotions to overall young trends were designed to follow. My sister made sure I didn’t have to carry those burdens 24/7 that I atleast got to experience some of the things all kids should be able to experience even though time were tough. My dad for his support and my older brother for stepping in as another moral compass. My brother has been a big motivator in this entrepreneurial journey. I’m forever grateful for them all!!
