We had the good fortune of connecting with Raizel Prijanto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raizel, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
To me, it always comes down to the connection. Connecting with the right individuals has been the biggest factor in my journey. The right people will open doors, lead you to places you didn’t know you belonged, and most importantly, lift you up. When working in fashion, it can be intimidating or competitive, but when you surround yourself with individuals who genuinely support your vision, the energy shifts to becoming collaborative and inspiring.

Another factor is truly knowing your art and understanding your audience. Fashion is more than just making clothes; it’s about creating pieces that reflect people’s identity and lifestyle. When you’re intentional in your craft and recognize who you’re designing for, the work naturally finds its own place in the world.

At the end of the day, I believe that success is this balance: sustaining the relationships that elevate you while remaining grounded in the art and community that inspired you to begin with.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is in fashion. But more than that, it’s a way of storytelling, a reflection of culture, and an admiration of craftsmanship. I am committed to creating pieces that reference my cultural roots while exploring the intersection of fashion with art, music, and other creative forms. Every piece I make is a reflection of that narrative. My proudest moment thus far is a fashion show collective I created with my peers. More than a project, it was a collaboration that brought together different perspectives and possibilities. Getting to this point professionally hasn’t been easy. It took dedication, constant hard work, and building meaningful connections. Challenges were constant; I learned to overcome them by seeking advice and not being afraid to lean on others. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success doesn’t happen in isolation; it’s a combination of collaboration, support, and discipline. My work is my brand; it represents me. My vision focuses on the art and craftsmanship, recognizing it as a creative medium. Every piece is rooted in the desire to tell a story and resonate with people on a deeper level.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting LA, I would definitely be showing them my favorite spots and making sure they eat and shop till they drop!

We would start off the morning with getting a matcha or hojicha einspanner at Community Goods, the perfect source of caffeine to start the day shopping. Next, we’re off to Melrose for brunch at Great White, or even a quick curry salad from Urth Cafe, or a spicy tuna sandwich from Joe and the Juice. Then it’s time to shop our way through some of my favorite spots: Cherry LA, Madhappy, Acne Studios, Takana Vintage, Staud, and Set Active.

Our continued afternoon would be more shopping in Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive for some accent books at Taschen, along with Erewhon smoothies and sharing Maybourne Hotel’s butterscotch pancakes. If not Beverly Hills, we’ll immerse ourselves in art at the LACMA and the Petersen Automotive Museum. A midday refuel would be another matcha from Series A or Rok before getting ready for dinner at Madeo or sushi at Ootoro. We’ll end the night with some drinks from “The Rooftop at Edition” or maybe a stroll around Griffith Observatory.

On the weekend, we’d head to the coast as an escape from the city, exploring stores at the Pacific Palisades village and Malibu, visiting the beaches, boutiques, and scenic spots. The week would have a fun balance of food, fashion, and art. The perfect way to explore LA.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the amazing people I’ve had around me throughout my fashion journey. My peers during my time in fashion school, who without a doubt challenged me, collaborated with me, and shared in the late nights and creative chaos; the people that played such a huge part in my growth. Additionally, my professors also have a key role, pushing me to refine my craft and see new possibilities in my work. I am truly grateful for the people who have lifted me up, shared advice, and constantly reminded me to keep on creating.
