We had the good fortune of connecting with Rajib Karmakar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rajib, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It never amazes me how much time people waste searching endlessly for magic shortcuts to entrepreneurial success and fulfillment when the only real path is starting them right in the face. Yes, it’s hard and takes lots of courage but you got to start somewhere. For me it’s after completing my degree from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) I figured out that I need to share not only my accumulated knowledge that I have learnt from these past years but also life, experiences and culture along with it and give it back to the people and build a community where people from different backgrounds and culture come together and share a common space. This was the main vision to establish” Los Angeles International Music and Arts Academy” also popularly known as LAIMA Academy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
From a tender age I had seen my father and my Gurus (teachers) and their vision with music and life. Before I started to read and write, I had Sitar in my hand at the age of four. I think the preparatory phase was in my mother’s womb. From then, touching those strings of the sitar with reverence, made me feel excited and happy and soon I also started playing melodiously and started improvising seamlessly as if I knew this instrument for a long period of time. Slowly I started realizing that this is what connecting me with my soul & since then it became my passion. Music actually is my second nature. In my life this is the path for me to know the divine truth and connect myself with it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My all time favourite place in the city is Lake Shrine Temple, Pacific Palisades. Thats a place where I can spend hours in their beautiful garden which contains a huge species of exotic flora and varied fauna. The next I would recommend visiting the Melrose Rooftop Theatre which has really cool seating and you can enjoy a great time watching movies and dinning . One of my favourite restaurants in the City with outdoor seating is Dune in Atwater Village.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In my childhood my mother always taught me the values of karma in life. I care more about our client’s transformation than the bottom line of making profits . If we care about the lives, we are changing the world, we will be abundant this is the value we teach through LAIMA Academy. Definitely, we all know that the United states is the land of opportunity for those who believe in themselves & I was lucky enough to get it in the City of Angels – Los Angeles where people opened their arms and embrace differences. This was the perfect place for LAIMA Academy to be born and grow into its prime.
