We had the good fortune of connecting with Ramsey Heitmann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ramsey, why did you pursue a creative career?
I realized very early on in my life that a typical 9-5 job was not something I connected with. I wanted excitement, spontaneity, and the ability to create stories and media that would represent my voice and my ideas.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a producer, I get to work on the creative aspects of film throughout the entire process. I get to work on the story from pre-production all the way through delivery. I get most excited when the shooting starts! Seeing the work you’ve created and molded unfold in front of you is truly a unique experience. I got the to where I am today through hours and hours of pitching scripts to potential investors, making and maintaining connections from highschool to college, and sacrificing personal time and comfort.
It has not been easy. My social and mental health has been a rollercoaster throughout. Being away from those you love for extended periods of time while on a shoot is bittersweet. On one hand I feel grateful and fulfilled knowing I’m doing what I was meant to do. But on the other, I know I’m sacrificing relationships and time with those I feel closest to.
I’ve learned that filmmaking is a double edged sword. The highs are very high, and frankly the lows and wildly low. The feeling of seeing that story you’re so passionate about unfold in front of you is special. At the same time, the stress that comes with creating that same story is powerful in many ways. You need to be willing to sacrifice many different aspects of your everyday life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
NYC has WAY too many things to do! I would bring them to prospect park for a relaxing day in Brooklyn. Later we would head into to Manhattan for dinner and drinks. Watching the Sunset on the HighLine is on my bucket list as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Although my life as a producer is still very young, I would like to give a massive shoutout to Myles Clohessy and Antony Ware for believing in me from the beginning. With other more experienced options at their disposal, they decided to bring me onto their team and grow with them. They continue to show a trust in me that is unrivaled, and give me a platform to do what I love.
