We had the good fortune of connecting with Rana Shahi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rana, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My family has always been my rock. They have supported and encouraged me from day one. My parents taught me to work relentlessly and to never give up. My family immigrated to the United States when I was 5 years old. I watched my parents work hard and sacrifice in order to provide me and my siblings a better life full of opportunity. The values and strong work ethic they instilled in me have played a major role in my success. They also taught me the value of community and philanthropy. I am blessed with a very supportive family who encouraged me to pursue an education in dentistry. I have a sense of duty to help those who do not have access to dental care. I have carried that value into my practice by participating in various charities over the years. A cause I am most passionate about is “SmileOnU,” an organization which provides free dental care to the less fortunate around the world. I have had the opportunity to complete a number of missions abroad with them. My practice is also affiliated with Delancey Street Foundation, providing a pro-bono case annually.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets LA Periodontics & Implant Specialists apart is our focus on providing a consistently high quality of care to our patients and referring dentists. It starts with a strong team made up of talented and dedicated individuals who have set their sights on providing our patients with the best possible care. We take pride in providing the best quality care using state of the art technology and materials. I am constantly reading and learning about techniques, materials, and technology to be able to provide my patients with the best treatment. We always go above and beyond to make our patients feel like they are in a friendly and safe environment. We want all our patients to know that we are always going to go the extra mile to make sure we provide them with the quality of care they deserve and help them achieve a beautiful, healthy smile.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I would pick her up from the airport Friday night and head straight to In-N-Out Burger. Since Los Angeles is so spread out, I would break up the itinerary into neighborhoods. I would show her around Hollywood/Downtown and make sure we visit the Hollywood walk of fame, Chinese Theater, and The Urban Lights (one of my favorite LA spots). We would then have lunch at Broken Spanish and dinner at Nightshade. I would also take her to a concert at Hollywood Bowl, and then for dancing and karaoke at Breakroom 86.

On the West Side, we would go to Rose Cafe in Venice for brunch, then walk down to the beach along the boardwalk and up to Santa Monica, and enjoy a late lunch an Elephante. We would probably end up at the Santa Monica Promenade to do some shopping, and later have dinner and drinks at Wally’s. Then, we would find our way to Hotel Shangri-La for last call. Finally, the next day, we would go on a nice morning hike to Griffith park and observatory, followed by a visit to Neptune’s Net in Malibu for some seafood, and then spend the rest of the day with friends at Point Dume for a fun beach day. In the evening, we would spend the night in Calabasas with my family, and would then enjoy a delicious brunch at Peddler’s Fork before dropping my friend off at the airport.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
That’s an easy one. I would like to send a shoutout to my family. My parents, Farideh Amin and Jamshid Shahi, have always been my role models. They both set great examples of strength, strong work ethic, discipline and unconditional love and support. My brother, Reza, who I have always looked up to and admired. My sister, Roya, who has always encouraged me to enjoy my journey and appreciate my accomplishments, even the small ones. Lastly, my mentor, Dr. Gordon Pattison, who has taught me many valuable lessons in running a successful business and providing quality care to patients.
