We had the good fortune of connecting with Randez West II and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Randez, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
A simplified answer is “The Process”, the process of getting up everyday, knowing there’s work to be done, and finding ways to get it all finished. The process of of using my eyes, the science of light and this machine to shine light on those around me. I read a quote once, “I’m only happy when I’m making great work”, and I sat on that idea for month. The ripple effect of making great work can not only bring joy to oneself but joy and inspiration to those who digest the work.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ll be honest, I think the biggest difference, not just from myself and other DOers is just that, we have an incredible amount of drive to get things done. I’m a fine art photographer, self taught, to reach a point where I’m sustaining myself with my art took years of trial and error, plenty of bad deals, and learning from every step on the path. I planned a lot, that may sound like a simple answer for how to succeed, but planning is 90% of battle is preparation. “Was it easy?” Absolutely not, and anyone that tells you it is easy is lying to you. There are, of course, challenges in every industry, for me my biggest challenge was finding where I fit in, or better said, making a place for myself. I’ve learned that having a strong network will take you far, so speak up when the opportunity comes.
For everyone in the world, If you do happen to have the opportunity to read this I’d like for you to know that you can do anything you put your mind to. I started from 0, as do most people, and though the journey can be tough, find comfort in knowing that you are not alone on the path.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my friends and family on the road less traveled, those that have guided me along the path and beenopen tu guidance from me. I wouldn’t be me without you!
