We had the good fortune of connecting with Raquel Krelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raquel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had just become a new mom so I needed a creative career with a flexible schedule that I could manage myself. I also loved the idea of being able to work predominately from home.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been a portrait photographer for over 20 years and though I have truly enjoyed every minute of shooting actors and writers of all ages, I am really excited to be branching out into many different areas of photography. I will be launching my new website in the next month or so, and have added, travel, lifestyle, celebrities and fine art! The road to becoming a photographer was not hard, but I attribute that to one thing only: I absolutely LOVE what I do for a living. I don’t feel like I’m working when I am behind a camera. I am inspired by people, their stories, and the connection I can have with someone when I photograph them. It just makes me happy. My biggest lesson in running my own business as an artist, has been to believe in myself and the work. This was not always easy, as most artist know, we sometimes look for validation or approval, but when I am truly focused on my subject and capturing a moment and their essence, then the pictures speak for themselves!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live and work in Beverly Hills so I don’t have to go far to have a great time with a friend in LA! The shopping is like no other place in the states. Every store, every brand, every boutique is right here on the beautiful streets of Beverly Hills. But first… Coffee at Alfred’s. The Chagaccino is my personal favorite, and I like it hot please, even in the summer! Next we may drive out to Malibu where there are some of the prettiest beaches around, and of course we absolutely have to stop for an amazing lunch a Nobu Malibu…the views alone are worth it but the food is always delicious. And we can get some fantastic photos there too! If a casual night is in order, I want pizza and there is only one place in Los Angeles that I will drive out of my way for, and it’s in the valley…Little Toni’s. It is an old school Italian restaurant, that has been there forever, and it is still some of the best Pizza in town!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shout out to my amazing children Olivia and Owen for being supportive and wonderful, as I worked in the studio behind our house, even on the weekends. And I’d like to thank my mentor and close friend Russell Baer, a talented celebrity photographer, for sharing his experience and advice with me, and for always making me laugh!
