We had the good fortune of connecting with Raquel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raquel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind CTM was that I wanted to build a community that felt like a sisterhood, where women could come as their authentic selves and find a sense of belonging. I envisioned a place where women from all walks of life could share their stories, and through these stories find commonality while uplifting, supporting and inspiring other women. Also, I always had it in my heart that through this nonprofit we would be able to give back to our communities- through donation drives or even hands on support.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The road to get to where I am today (there is still so much more I want to do) was for sure not easy! Growing up without my parents and siblings was hard, and growing up in a toxic family environment had a profound impact on me. However, being able to see that trauma and make a conscious effort to break those cycles has been one of the most meaningful things I could do.

As an immigrant and DACA recipient is was not an easy road to higher education. I went from high school to community college to CSU and finally to my dream school, Chapman University. Receiving my Master’s Degree in Leadership Development was a life highlight for sure! It is because of this time in higher ed that I truly learned about myself, what it meant to stand in my power at that time as an undocummented student. It was also a transformative time because I realized my value and finally found my voice.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This sounds like fun!

I love being active, dining out and also cooking at home a lot! For sure, I would start with a morning breakfast at one of my favorite places Urth Caffe. Then go on a hike to Peter’s Canyon or even Laguna Beach- love hanging out and dipping my toes in the sand.

For sure my favorite place is anywhere that has good tacos and Mexican food. For formal dining I enjoy Viaje in Belmont Shores- the food there is exquisite and beautifully crafted. I also enjoy a delicious steak, and especially coupled with amazing friends and laughs. My favorite after concert or baseball game snack is for sure an LA bacon wrapped street hot dog!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For sure the success of CTM has been because of so many people who have been part of this! A huge thank you to my husband who always believed in our mission, and helped establish CTM as a nonprofit organization. As a matter of fact, my husband and son are the ones always helping with anything from set-up to clean-up and everything in between.

Our COMMUNITY is a huge reason why CTM is still able to host amazing events while giving back. I am thankful for all the women that choose to share space at our events, for those that volunteer their times/services, for those that donate to our cause, for those that share our mission and countless other reasons. Forever grateful to be able to share stories and learn from so many amazing mujeres!
