We had the good fortune of connecting with Raul Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raul, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Over the last century Catch Wrestling had all but gone extinct. Offshoots like Freestyle and predetermined Pro Wrestling are what many think about when they hear the word, “Wrestling.” I wanted to give a voice to, and raise awareness of the wrestling style that started it all, Catch Wrestling.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Martial arts are very rewarding, because they are difficult to master. They are something you work on every day. Raising awareness about the art of Catch Wrestling was difficult because we have to cut through the noise of all the other popular styles of grappling and, on top of that, there are people claiming to know Catch Wrestling just to sell products to people who don’t know any better. Bringing the Catch Wrestling Alliance to prominence is a labor of love that has taken years, but the work is still not over.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A couple of my favorite places to go on LA of course are the beaches, and the Huntington Library and Gardens. The beauty of both locations are really not to be missed on a trip to LA. Besides that, of take my friend to eat at all the great vegan spots like sushi at Shojin, burgers at Monty’s in Koreatown, pizza at Julie Goes Green in Palms, Mexican food at Gracias Madre on Melrose Vietnamese food at Vinh Loi Tofu in the valley, Chinese food at Vege Paradise in the other valley the San Gabriel valley. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Besides my parents, I want to give a shout out to the surviving lineages of Catch Wrestling, primarily coach Roy Wood in Wigan, England, and Jon Strickland on South Carolina. Together we keep real wrestling alive.
