We had the good fortune of connecting with Raven Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raven, what role has risk played in your life or career?
With risks , I have learned to weigh my options. I like to figure out how it would effect me positive verse negatively and decide if its worth taking. It’s always freighting to step out of your comfort zone. I’ve learned to lean into that because it’s supposed to be uncomfortable. You are trying something new. Explore and see what awaits you.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to call myself a Jack of all trades. I have certainly earned that title with my work. I am a photographer, Playwright/screenwriter, and director. I am most excited about an animated film that i am writing about a Jamaican princess who is obsessed with adventure. The wedding season is kicking back up again so I have been really enjoying capturing a couples happiness in a photo.

It wasn’t always easy. I have to constantly prove myself to others. For the longest time, I was told to just stick to something. However, I’ve found that Im not exactly good at that and shine more when I create in different ways.

I want the world to know that I am always looking to tell my story and love to help others tell their own. This is what makes me happy and is the reason why I love my job so much.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my best friend to my favorite spot in LA, Venice Canals. Its a nice little escape from LA and looks exactly like the ones in Italy. Then my favorite restaurant Burger city Grill and Beach bowls for an amazing Acai bowl.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Id liked to dedicate my shoutout to my parents. They always push me to be better and do better. They are the true source of my determination.
