We had the good fortune of connecting with Ray Lac and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ray, what do you attribute your success to?
i truly believe that hard work lays the foundation for any success, but over time, i’ve learned that power of working smarter, not just harder. as a creative artist behind the chair, im also a business owner just like any others businesses , responsible for delivering exceptional service every single day. what has made the biggest difference in my success and brand growth is staying “Authentic and honest” in an industry full of trends and pressure to fit in, being genuine builds trust, loyalty, and lasting relationships. i believe that honesty take you further-wile shortcuts and dishonesty may offer quick gains, they never lead to sustainable success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
i’ve always loved art. before discovering my passion for hair, i was an art major in college, studying to become a graphic designer. visuals creativity and working with color have always come naturally to me, so transitioning into the world of hair felt like an organic evolution.
throughout my career, i’ve been honored to work with some well-known personalities, but my proudest and most fulling moments come from everyday clients, who leave my chair feeling confident and beautiful. theres nothing more rewarding than receiving a message or a photo from someone glowing with happiness, proud of how they look and feel.
to be completely honest, the hair industry is far from easy. its physically demanding, emotionally intense. and often misunderstood. many hairstylist leave the profession early in their careers or later in life not because they lack talent, but because the journey is grueling. after completing cosmetology school, which takes around 15 months, most of us spend another 3 or 4 years apprenticing, earning minimum wage, often working two jobs, seven days a week, just to get by. and after all that, the real challenge begins: building a loyal clientele, which can take anywhere from a year to five or more.
its a journey that can easily take 8 to 10 years of dedication, hustle, and heart. thats why may choose to walk away. but for me, i kept going because i genuinely love what i do. my guiding belief has always been: “do what you love and love what you do”.

i feel incredibly blessed to have found my true passion. everyday, i get to help people not only look good on the outside but feel great on the inside. that feeling, that connection is what fuels me.
no. my work may not make me a multimillionaire, but it give me something even more valuable: joy, purpose, and the ability to make real difference in someone’s life. and thats more than enough.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
im incredibly blessed to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. i often have friends and family visiting from the state or even overseas, and i love showing them the magic of los Angeles.
one of the most favorite spots to take them is the Griffith observatory, the views of the city from up there are absolutely breathtaking, we usually explore iconic places like the walk of fame, beverly hills, and sunset boulevard. if the allows, well take a drive out to santa barbara, laguna beach, or famous santa monica pier.
when it comes to foods LA is unbeatable, choosing where to eat is always the hardest part because there are so many amazing options. For italian foods, some of my personal favorites include cento pasta bar, mother wolf, osteria mamma, and l’Antica Pizzeria da michele. For a lively atmosphere (and a chance to spot a celebrity), Avra beverly hills, and II Pastaio are always a hit. one of the best things about Los angels is that every neighborhood ha its own unique vibe and hidden gems, you truly never run out of things to see,, do and experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
im grateful for all the incredible people in my life whose shown me kindess and support. but above all, i owe everything to my parents, their strength, sacrifice, and unwavering love made it possible for me to be where i am today. they left everything behind to build a better life in this country, and gave their all so i could pursue my dreams. their journey is my foundation, and their belief in me means more than words can ever express
